You can really see everyone's naive pre-hurricane Katrina mindset in this thread.

It's soooo hard not to sway far left when talking about the Bush Empire.

jeez people. what page is this again?! i thought we were vaguely leaning towards a bit left of the line. i believe we ought to apply our minds more rigorously. should american soldiers be tortured simply because they lack the gall to stand up against the tyrrany and refuse to colonise for profit and control of resources? should they be degraded and "punished" for all the suffering, daily murder of countless innocent women, children (and men). is that not the exact same crime. and here we would implicate every radio-operator and chef to the chap with his finger on the trigger. are they not too terrorists for the enemy. when perpetrated against "us", violence is criminal, but just when inflicted on "the other". it seems this double standard will always stop us from truly realising all violence, torture is abominalbe and all war simply wrong.

You all know they wouldn't have been punished if they hadn't been doing something wrong.

You seem to be missing my point. If you commit a crime, you're guilty of it whether or not someone proves it. Only the perpetrator knows for sure if he's guilty. I read the article more than once, understood it, and my opinion still remains. If one of them did indeed commit a crime they are getting what thy deserve. I do NOT agree with what is being done. The CIA does NOT know if they are guilty or not so this should NOT be happening. But the fact remains, it HAS happpened. Since it already happened, I don't know a single person who wouldn't prefer that the people it happened to were indeed guilty.

the problem is that you don't know if they are terrorist before they've got their trial. The US are currently arresting everyone who they think may be a terrorist and put them at the Guantanamo or somewhere else without letting them have a trial. i think its ok to arrest people but you've got to have some evidence first and give them a fair trial! (thats what this article is about, if you haven't read it) that's on of the most fundamental things we've got in a democracy. but i don't belive the US is a democracy anymore.

I'm only talking about those that ARE terrorists. Do you think they care about human rights? Why should anyone care about their rights when they are the worse offenders by not just taking away others' human rights, but ALL of their rights. They shouldn't be denied fair trial, but even if by accident they got the right guys, then they certainly deserve what they got. In an ideal world we'd have all the evidence we need, but unfortunately it isn't so. I sincerely hope that none of these people are wrongfully accused. And I resent having words put in my mouth nr23se. I did not even imply a single word of what you said. I said nothing about looking middle-eastern, threatening families or even that this law is right. Try to read things more than once before mouthing off the first thing that comes to mind. But if you've got enough naivety and enough conviction then that answer's perfect for you.

RatGuy -> what you are saying is that if someone looks like he is from the middle east then its ok to torture him and threaten his family even if they (the US) have no evidence. this new terrorist law is so fucking wrong.

Sorry, no matter how you label them they are still human beings and still are entitled to their human rights. No human should have to leave through torture; and yes I know you can bring up arguments stating that other countries are doing the same but the United States is suppose to be a example of tolerance and respect for your fellow man. But that's just my opinion.

Bias? In a news report?! To think I trusted the media to be completely ojective in their search for truth(Note sarcasm)! Well if out of all those suspected terrorists one or all of them actually WERE terrorists, then they're certainly getting what they had coming to them. Those fucks don't deserve the protection of US laws however lax you may think they are.

I can't help but believe that there is a bit of bias in these articles.
I wish that I could find a website that is not always catered to the right or left.

This guys where tortured in Egypt and i think 2 of 3 was released a few months later. the person in sweden who accapted CIA to go into sweden and take them to Egygpt was the former foreign minister Anna Lindh. Ironically, Lindh was stabbed to death a year ago. She wasn't that innocent that everyone here thought!
