I think that a common misconception a lot of people here are having is that without religion, we return to barbaric lawlessness. It needs to be remembered that religion is ONLY ONE source of moral instruction. It is quite possible (and I'd say Bad religion thinks preferable) to derive your morals and values from other places.
People here speak about preferring Catholicism because they don't want to live without 'structure', or that without religion people will massacre each other because 'there's no one there to tell them not to'.
We are not immoral savages by nature! We are not waiting for the law (or for God) to look the other way so that we can rape, plunder and pillage! It's simply not the case! All people want the same things in life: more pleasure than pain and more joy than sorrow. We all have these same basic impulses.
I suggest reading Atheism: The Case Against God, by George H Smith. His criticism of traditional religious morality is worth paying serious attention to.

no I am not from Australia.
I am just living at a friend's of mine overthere at the moment, as I went over after finishing high school in June. I'll return to Germany in September and plan to start going to University in October (if I am accepted that is).
ohh, and btw: Why do you think I am from australia? Do we know each other and I forgot about you?

hey sammy, I bet you don't like chimaera either... but I think people like greg graffin think that a world without religion would be better, but you can't say that unless you build a time-machine to change the world and see what the world would be like without religion. I think a lot of people would not have a reason to live. And that more people would commit crimes 'cause who says killing is wrong and stuff? Anyways, it's stupid people think all catholics are child molestors and all muslims are suicide bombers...

No I mean like I'm a huge fan of Bad Religion cause of their insightful lyrics, wit, and style and I'm a Catholic because I believe without a foundation there isn't really any rationale for doing anything at all. Catholicism is completly misunderstood by those who criticize it, if anyone ever wanted to have a serious discussion in the spirit of honesty I'd be more than happy. And by the way, the crusades were run by lay people not the hierarchy. The Vatican archives are open if you want to read what the pope was saying at the time you can. Sinister Rouge is a completly uneducated, ethnocentric (your ignoring European culture of the time), and wrong understanding of Catholicism but Bad Religion is still awesome.

the guy who called me a douchebag seems to have a really good explanation for this outburst that he wants to withheld. other than that, i?d say he?s one of these sissies who pick their fights on the internet.

I suspect I'm the only one in the world that plans on going to both. Amongst my Catholic friends I'm the only bad religion fanatic and amongst the punkers at my school I'm the only Catholic. I'm kinda excited I hope nothing is done in bad taste.
