Detailed Underworld Gig Notes Including Greg H & Jay B & Actual Set-list:

I only have a few more notes to add to what has already been posted.

Greg Hetson:

I was having a pre-gig drinks and food with my girlfriend in the Worlds End pub which is right above the Underworld.

I saw Greg Hetson walking around the pub and it seemed like he was looking for someone.

I immediately left my food and went over to say hello to him. This was my first time seeing one of the members of my favourite band who I idiolise beyond belief so I was star-struck big time even though I was trying my best not to be.

I said hello and introduced myself. We shook hands and I asked him how the tour had been going. He said it had been going well but he did seem a bit distracted.

I asked him if he was ok and he said that he was looking for someone called Andy as some band merchandise had arrived and the only person who the deliverer would give the merchandise to was Andy.

I asked Greg what Andy looked like and he said large with a long ginger beard. I offered to help look for him and Greg didn't seem to mind. We did a tour of the pub looking but couldn't find him anywhere.

We then stood right at the front of the pub and I asked him a few more questions. I asked who got to choose the set-list for each show and he said it was the whole band. I asked him if there was a BR song he had never played live but had always wanted to and he said he couldn't think of any.

I then asked if he had a favourite BR song or Album and he said he didn't and that they all seemed such a blur to him.

I asked where Greg Graffin was and Greg H said he didn't know as he hadn't seen him for two days since the Birmingham gig as Greg G had been spending all his time with his girlfriend.

I then asked where Jay was and Greg said that he had gone off to find a doctor! I of course was a bit worried and asked how come and he said something about being bitten really badly at one of the venues that they had been too and needing to get some medication for the bite.

Greg was drinking a diet coke and I offered to get him a drink but he declined politely saying that he had work to do later. He then did say that maybe later I could get him a drink.

I did ask him the question that I know he gets asked a lot - whether he is still into Nintendo. He laughed and said no not any more but that his daughter was into it. He said his daughter is 8 and that her name is Violet.

Greg then said that he should continue looking for Andy and we said goodbye.

Luckily I saw him again about half and hour later. I was able to introduce him to my girlfriend and she took a picture of the two of us. Greg let me buy him a drink this time. He said he wanted an english pint so I got him a Carling extra cold. He said he usually drinks budweiser in the US.

He still didn?t know where Greg G was or if Jay had found the doctors. He said Brett G would not be at the show and that he had just made one appearance in Europe but didn?t play as he was too tired.

I asked which of the three London dates (Reading?s almost London) he was looking forward to and he said definitely tonight. He said out of the three shows this one would be the special one and that it would be more of an old set. He seemed to be genuinely excited about it when he was saying this.


Jay Bentley:

Greg H then said that he had to go talk to another of his friends and he moved off to another bunch of people standing right near the entrance of the pub. About half an hour later Jay walked in and started chatting to him and the other guys.

It looked really cool because Jay and Greg H were chatting together at the front of the bar and then just a metre or two behind them you could see through the windows the long queue of fans waiting to go into the Underworld. It was like no-one in the queue knew that just a metre or two away were two of the band?s members.

Jay seemed to be in a bit of a hurry and he had a big bandage on his neck. I waited till he had finished talking and as he was about to leave the pub I quickly introduced myself and got my picture taken with him. I asked him if he had found a doctor ok and about the bandage on the neck. He said that he got bitten by a massive spider in Holland (ouch!) and that he had got some stuff for it from the doctor.

He and Greg H then went off together.



Pre-gig:

Downstairs in the underworld we got some drinks and then checked out the merchandise store. The t-shirts were actually quite good and were very cheap too at only ?10 each, and the cap wasn?t bad either. The hoodie being sold wasn?t so great though.

We then saw Greg H again walking around and he came over and said hello again. I said something like good luck for the show and he said to enjoy it.


The actual gig:

The underworld is such a cool venue as it is so small and compact ? it makes for a great atmosphere. Usually there are no barriers or security guards but tonight there was a small barrier right at the front and about four security guards. We managed to get right to the front of the crowd and were standing just right off the middle (in between Greg G and Greg H when they were performing).

The crowd were really pumped and up for it and gave the band a well good reception when they walked out on stage.

The started off with ?No Control? (see below for full set-list).

Most of Greg?s humorous fillers in between the songs have already been posted so I wont repeat them.

Greg G asked what are the three most important words in any religion as the lead into ?Come Join Us,? which was really cool.

Greg did mention the usual ?cheap seats? at one point in the gig. Am not sure where he was referring to but he may have meant the people standing on the stairs out of the mosh pit.

Early on in the set Greg G said that someone in the crowd was cheating as they could see part of the set list when they were yelling out the songs they wanted. Greg G then ripped that part of the set list off the floor and chucked it into the crowd. My girlfriend got her hands on it as did two other guys around her. Greg G then looked down at my girlfriend and said ?hey guys don?t fight her for it, she deserves it!? The guys let go and my girlfriend got that part of the set list. You can imagine how chuffed she was as Greg had more or less said to leave it for her!

I?d say that the stage almost wasn?t big enough for all of them to play. Greg H was running about in the space he had and was doing his trademark jumps, whilst Brian Baker and Jay had to share the left hand side of the stage.

I know it?s been said before but the bass solo was cool and also when Jay and Brian swapped instruments for ?Fuck Armageddon?.

There were lots of crowd surfers but the security guards would just push the surfers back down into the crowd which was really annoying. I did see one guy make it over though.

After the show I managed to get the full set list and it is quite surprising as I think a few songs were missed off there (see below).

My girlfriend managed to pick out 4 plectrums on the floor in between the stage and the barriers and so she got those. They say ?If found please return to Greg Hetson? on one side and ?Drop in any mailbox? on the other.

Greg H was walking around after the show again both in the Underworld and in the pub upstairs. I think he thought that I was stalking him as we had seen each other so much that night. I saw him go into the toilets in the pub and thought I?d play a joke on him. I went in and saw that he was in one of the cubicles as he had left the door open. He had his back to me and so I went into the next cubicle and yelled ?Mr Hetson, I?ve been waiting for you!? His face looked a bit shocked at first when he came out but when he saw it was me he did laugh and say that was funny.
