Hey Neil.
in the words of greg: "hate is a simple manifestation of a deep seated self-directed frustration. All it does is promomote fear and consternation, and it fills us all with trepidation."
Now come over here and give us a kiss too...

alright, alright...my bad. now that i reread what i wrote i realize how peeved I got. I just get touchy about green day lately because of all the shit everyone's giving em. but you are right actually...this is pretty fucking meaningless conversation (ie. we could fight about abortion, the war), so i'll settle down...good call. we should let our mutual bad religion-ness unite us...

...ya know green day fan, there is a thing called "sarcasm", a thing called "emotions are sometimes hard to identify in text" another thing called "a momentary rant", and in your case, a lack of humor.
well im not gonna entirley excuse my post for humor purpose, I probably shoulda said "oh well, I'm just ranting" at the end. And btw, saying the phrase "monotonous and boring" after the same phrase is called repitition.
Also it's my opinion, and you have your opinion, but your right about the facts, I'm sorry. With everyone else ocasionaly indulging what I just did a lot more often then I do it, I thought no one would care so much.
this is the last thing I'm saying anything about green day, because after responding to you, I've realized how stupid I look defending a half-humorous/half-opinated rant about some band that isn't even the main focus of this site.
also, sh*t just chill out, this ain't about abortion or anything, geez.

Jau, your fucking stupid and don't know what you're talking about. Get you're facts straight. Green Day's best selling album to date is still Dookie, as it sold 10 million copies in the US alone. American Idiot has sold 4 million copies in the US. And American Idiot was the only Green Day record to ever sell 1 million copies its first week...so get your facts straight. I think the best part about your rant was when you literally said that American Idiot was monotonous and boring, and then in the very next sentence you used the same exact phrase of monotonous and boring. maybe your sentence structure is monotonous and boring. And if you really think that American idiot is monotonous, try listening to Generator and Against the Grain. Its impossible for most people from an objective standpoint to get through those because every song sounds the same. You are nuts if you think that Jesus of Suburbia or Holiday sound like Wake Me Up When Sept. Ends or like Give Me Novicane...learn your shit.

ya know what Green Day could've done? they could've just released the first three tracks as an "American Idiot E.P.", since jesus of suburbia is long as hell, and then they could've taken more time to make an album that dosen't sound monotonus and boring. Did they do that? Nope, they made an album that is monotonus and boring. I don't care if their sell outs, that agrument is relative to each person, but for them to make an album with only 4 - 5 good tracks, the rest being very repetitve, then calling it their best because they sold god knows how many records, makes them hyprocrites, which i think is worse than selling out. i blame the companies though; if they didn't milk every penny from the artists, maybe they would'nt have felt compelled to make such garbage to sell for money.
Although, to their credit, they could make dub reggea with opera their next album, and it'll go plantinum the first week.

Don?t forget that the very next day Green Day will go play an impoverished shithole like Laredo, Tx and play the same songs as they did on TRL or whatever spoiled audience it was to. The day after that Green Day will play a hurricane Katrina relief concert and donate all the proceeds to the Red Cross. After that they will play at the Live Aid concert FOR FREE in order to raise awareness about African poverty. Let?s also forget about how Green Day will take all the proceeds from ipod downloading of Blvd of Broken Dreams (their most successful single ever) and donate all of the proceeds to the Tsunami victims. All you little closed minded punks can do is focus on the stuff that?s easy to scrutinize, but when the shit comes down, you really don?t know what your talking about. Popularity and fame do not equate selling out.

If Green Day are hypocrites because of the whole Verizon thing, then what about all the punk rockers with cellphones? Sprint, Cingular, Verizon, T-mobile, Cingular?all of them are Bush advocates. If Green Day are not supposed to endorse Verizon, then are punk rockers not supposed to use Cellphones? That is a ridiculous argument ?invisipunk.? And just because they make appearances on TRL doesn?t mean a damn thing. Who cares if they go on a program with a bunch of dumb spoiled rich kids and perform for them? They still want to promote their record (continued above).

Here's why Green Day is not sell-outs. A sell-out really is somebody that does something purely for money...somebody that changes what they do or like for the glory obtained from the change. Green Day's music is still as pure as it was in the early 90s on Lookout. Sure, they don't sing music about "The Judge's Daughter" or "At the Library" anymore, but their in their early 30s now. If they were still singing about that stuff, then they would be sell-outs...like the way Simple Plan and Good Charlotte are grown adults and sing songs targeted at 15 year-olds. That's what a sell-out is. And so what if the Green Day tour is sponsored by Verizon? Green Day's lyrics are not about disowning corporations that support or donate money to the Bush campaign. If you really want to go that route, then lets talk about half of the punks around the world...(continued above)

Ok then, so I'm wrong. They're sell-outs.
But honestly, I just get so sick and tired of people screaming about bands that sell-out (this isn't directed specifically at you invisipunk or Part III), or complain because they get a nice check for themselves from concerts and cd sales. Maybe it's just because I'm getting older now and with it, more cynical, but it seems that no band can escape kicking itself in its own ass by being hypocritical and doing something that will alienate half its fan base. It's just a part of the game, even if it sucks.
I guess what I'm trying to say that I've stopped caring about what a band looks like/says/or even supports (to an extent) and now I just concentrate on the music itself. If I like it, I listen to it. If not, I leave it alone.

Green Day ARE sell outs. No, not because they signed to a major, I don't care about that stuf. BR signed to a major SO FUCKING WHAT? You know what makes them sell outs? The fact that they see fit to have a $1000 per day stylist dictate what their look should be, the fact that they no longer can have a spontaneous gig, (People that complain that BR's setlists are repeatitive have never been to a GD show lately)However, what makes them real sell-outs are the never ending marketing schemes, the endless TRL apearances and most importantly, the fact that they have allowed American Idiot, and its tour to be sponsored by a major GW Bush contributing corporation (Verizon)

Personally, I love all their stuff, both old and new, but I suppose that's just matter of personal opinion.
Billy Joe Armstrong has been wearing eye-liner since the early days, if I'm not mistaken. And if not, so what? I just don't get what the big deal is. I don't think it's wrong to take pride in one's successes, and if being interviewed by MTV or having your videos played on it lets your fans have more access to you as a band, than so be it. I'm not a huge fan of MTV, but without it I wouldn't have been able to see most of Greenday's videos and even live performances.

old green day > new green day
.
wearing make up doesnt ring a bell? plus the music is okay, it just gets old extremely fast. plus they get glorified on MTV the same way as Britney Spears. Saying American Idiot "being theyre most powerful album yet" and they greedly agreeing on it. its just a regular cause of good turned bad.

I love Greenday...I don't think they're "sell-outs" (whatever that word really means) just because they're making a lot of money and are hugely popular. They still make great, relevant music and put on incredible shows.

Maynard from Tool did it even better than Brett in a song called "Hooker with a penis"
"I met a boy wearing Vans, 501s, and a
Dope Beastie T, nipple rings, and
New tattoos that claimed that he
Was OGT, From ?92, The first ep.
And in between Sips of coke
He told me that He thought
We were sellin? out, Layin? down,
Suckin? up To the man.
Well now I?ve got some
AD-vice for you, little buddy.
Before you point the finger
You should know that
I?m the man,
And if I?m the man,
Then you?re the man, and
He?s the man as well so you can
Point that fuckin? finger up your ass."
...the rest of the song rocks as well

My feet are picky.
