"Contractual obligation one and two"? I'm sick of everyone dumpig on No Substance and The New America. I love ALL of the BR albums. How is it that certain fans love "Epiphany" but can't handle "1000 Memories" or "Victims of the Revolution"?

ok, enough with the E-stupidity. I can see you obviously took personal offendance to me just asking someone of their e-mail. Good thing there's the E-police like you to keep the oh so important E-laws in order. You seemed positive when mentioning the collaboration idea, why not walk down that road more often? don't act too important; you're not as important as you want to or seem to act like.

hey jonny i know the perfect chick her name is Emily
she did a sweet ass cover of sorrow (she also plays guitar) that i actually like better than the BR version
which songs did you do? she knows several BR songs already as i got her into them (let them eat war, to another abyss, shattered faith, most of TPOB, and some older songs) but she'd likely learn new songs if i put her up to it

No problem, d.adrian...thanks for the apology; that was very cool of you, and I hope you don't think I hate you or anything, hehe. Like Jau says, miscommunication does seem to be a bit of a problem here, unfortunately. Anyways...sleep tight, and no grudges

we actually agree, on perhaps every subject. i was a bit harsh, but i wasnt't trying to analyze you or your ways in any way, as i actually respect your opinions. i apologize for seeming too straightforward. Sowing The Seeds Of Utopia happens to be one of my many personal favorites. straight off of NS. good night Katie, it's time to sleep on this side of the globe. no grudges!

Lastly, I don't have a problem with you not liking NS or NA, or believing that they aren't representative of the true BR sound. That's fine; it's your opinion, which I respect. But to me, BR will always be...well, BR, no matter how much they change. I agree with you that they have a signature sound, and that NS and NA was a radical departure from that style, but I don't think that just because they sounded unlike the other cds that they should be thrown out.
*Slaps forehead* Jeeze, all I was saying was that I like NS and NA. I don't know why you took my comment and ran with it, with me as a prime example for something (I'm still confused as to what, exactly), but that's all there was to it. If I read you wrong, again, I apologize. But I don't see any reason for you to go off on some sort of pyschological analysis of my musical tastes and personality.

d.adrian: I'm just letting you know that your previous comment about some fans being "blind" and accepting of everything a band puts out did strike me as VERY condescending, particularly after my simple remark of saying that I happened to like NS and NA. I was offended that you instantly tried to read into me as being one of those fans; it came across as being dismissive and, to be honest, arrogant. I realize that I can't catch the overall tone of what somebody writes on the internet as well as I could face to face, so maybe I interpreted it wrong. If I did, I apologize.
Secondly, I've been using words like consensus (yes, I spelled it wrong, sorry) before I even heard of BR. I've been an avid reader all my life, and I sometimes throw "complex" words into my speech or writings. I don't, as you seem to think, say to myself, "I wonder what words BR would use in this instance?" before I say things, and your inferring this about me, again, struck me as being disrespectful.

Recall the PR surrounding NS - "The boys are back!" exclaims Pete F.; on-air appearance for MTV's 120 Minutes; more. In the end it was just contractual obligation #1... but with a few great songs. I even wouldn't mind hearing a couple in concert again. If any recording (even the just good NS or NA) leads someone to delve into the rest of the catalog, all the better.

also, I understand the affection in value of it being the first album you've heard. the first album I heard was RFH in 1994, one year after it came out. although i was very, very young back then and couldn't at all begin to understand nor interpret the lyrics, i instantly took a liking to the dynamics of fast-paced drumming underlined with buzz-sawing guitars. at that age you barely even notice the bass, but still you grow to learn and appreciate. you seem to be striving too much for individualism. you're not the only one when it comes to anything, don't think that you are.

first of all, i wasn't being condescending at all. second, i ponder why you choose to use words as 'consensus', but i guess it makes you feel like fitting into the bad religion mold, hence it being a often used words in bad religion songs. you're not the only one who can interpret and understand the meaning of complex words. also, i actually happen to agree with you, the harmonics and multiple-layered vocals of especially NS is sometimes beautiful and impressive, but... what i mostly hold against those two albums are that they are not a true portrayal of bad religion. lyrically, they are both good (NS is sometimes incredibly good), but it's very, very not punk rock. (again, especially NS is as soft as hell, and doesn't sound like bad religion at all). How can a band change that much from STF & TGR and then into NS and TNA? I wasn't being condescending at all, and I'm not a blind follower of any consensus. i wasn't accusing of you being one either.

d.adrian: Thanks for the condescending comment, but I know what my own tastes are.
I love NS and NA because, in my personal opinion, they have good songs on them. I love the layered harmonies, the hooks, the lyrics, the complex, rich sound, etc. They were also among the very first BR cds I heard, so they hold a special place in my heart. Yes, I realize that they aren't favorites with the majority of BR fans, and even of some of the band members themselves, but that won't make me change my mind about it. In fact, I think doing so just to fit in with the popular concensus would be a little "blind", wouldn't you say?

It's not at all about liking sth just because it's Bad Religion. It's because it's fucking good, and No substance is fucking brilliant and The new America is great.

katie: but now, maybe you'd like everything BR put out? a lot of fans are like that; blind, and willing to accept everything from a band. but, it just goes to show that the fans can't always have the same taste as the band itself, and that the band is far more willing to be honest about their own work than their fans sometimes are.
