Andy Wallace is a studio engineer who has worked with Nirvana, Sonic Youth, and the Rollins Band, among others. He produced and mixed Stranger Than Fiction and also played the Hammond organ on the same-titled song.

To get the gig, Wallace mixed a version of "American Jesus" and sent it to the band while they were on the Recipe for Hate tour. This is the version that can be found on Christmas Songs (album).
