Song writing
Jay: "After a long recording session, Brett likes to write some songs to "cleanse his palate", per se. He also does that after writing long complicated songs. That's not to say they don't make the cut... it's just something he seems to do."[1]
Music preferences & inspiration
Brett: "I'm inspired to write by all kinds of everyday life experience like having my ass tickled with a feather."
In 1988 he said he loves The Ramones and Elvis Costello (like the rest of BR).
In 1991, his three favorite lyricists were Darby Crash, Elvis Costello and Bob Dylan.[2]
In 1993 he said The Beatles were his favourite band.
After the release of the first Daredevils single in 1997, Brett said his two biggest influences were The Beatles and Nick Lowe.
He considers Marquee Moon by Television (1977) to be one of the very best albums ever.
Favorite Bad Religion songs
In 1996 he said his favorite Bad Religion songs are probably Generator, Anesthesia and Infected. By late November 1996 All Good Soldiers was one of his favorite songs.
