Over the years, Bad Religion have played several soccer matches while being on tour. Known dates are 1993, 1994 and 2000.
1993:
On the European “Recipe For Hate”-tour, Bad Religion and crew played a soccer match against support band “Abwwärts” and crew at the Stadtpark in Hamburg. Bad Religion-team had white shirts, Abwaerts had the same shirt in black with white print. Brett, Jay, Graffin and Hetson all played, Bobby just watched.
1994:
On the European “Stranger Than Fiction”-tour, Bad Religion and crew played a friendly against fans who won a competition of the loca newspapper “Hamburger Morgenpost (MOPO)”. It took place on a “real” soccer field and players had real soccer jerseys. On the back these shirts had numbers, and “player’s name” that corresponded with the tracks on Stranger Than Fiction (e.g. 1 - Incomplete, 2 - Leave mine to me, etc...). Greg Graffin wore the #13 shirt (Inner Logic). Next to these jerseys, regular t-shirts (short sleeve & long sleeve) were made for the band and crew who didn’t take part in the game.
Team BR won by a narrow margin because of Graffin scoring several times.
2000:
On August 31, there was a charity match in the Millerntorstadion in favour of the passive members of FC St. Pauli (Hamburg). BR and some veteran stars of FC St. Pauli played against the club's third team. Of the band, however, just Jay and Greg Hetson played, with Brian and Bobby watching and drinking beer. BR lost 2 : 4.
Jay's response to this game was: "I think I'd better stick to playing ice hockey, I'm better at that But it was for a good cause, especially since a bit of money was raised for charity" [1]
