Greg Graffin (November 2010): "(A song) is a piece of art, so don’t forget a piece of art should always be interpreted by the observer. I’d say your interpretation is just as valid (as mine)."
Brett: "Song lyrics, like any other form of art, are deliberately and intentionally subject to interpretation. Not just from me, but anybody. An artist does a painting or a photograph or a poem. He's trying to express something but it's also the point of art is that each person can get something else out of it."
Jay: "Everyone has there own interpretation of a songs meaning. And unless it's way off base why not let them have it. I have ideas about what songs mean to me that are very personal and I know there is no way the author could have been writing my thoughts. Think of it as a painting, everyone will look at it differently. There is only one true subject, but the interpretations are unlimited. In other words; American Jesus is not about Star Wars, but if that's what you get from it, more power to you... If you think it's the theme song for the Ku Klux Klan, I'd pretty much have to stop you and talk about it's 'other possible meanings'."[1]
