Overview
The Circle Jerks are a punk band from Hermosa Beach, CA that was founded by Keith Morris and Greg Hetson in 1979. They have been on hiatus since 2010.
Early Bad Religion Friendship
The Circle Jerks assisted Bad Religion during their early years in a number of ways:
- Hetson took BR's first demo tape to "Rodney on the Roq" (a now legendary punk rock radio show on LA radio station KROQ, hosted by Rodney Bingheimer) when the Circle Jerks visited the show. It got played on-air.
- BR used the Circle Jerks tour van during 1985-1986 to breifly tour the West Coast and the East Coast.
- Their original drummer, Lucky Leher, played drums on the 1986 East Coast Tour, as Pete was at University in Eurpoe.[1]
- Lead singer Keith Morris sang backup vocals on Operation Rescue
Keith Morris: “The scenario with Bad Religion and the Circle Jerks was that we appreciated each other’s music. There weren’t any assholes in the group. There were no dicks. Everybody was cool."[2]
Shows
Bad Religion and The Circle Jerks have played together twelve times. [3]
Trivia
While recording Oddities, Abnormalities, and Curiosities the band was wasting a lot of time. Hetson said to them, "We need to get this done. Because, I have to go on Bad Religion duty the moment Greg Graffin snaps his fingers."[4]
