The second verse contains the following part:
"Yeah you waste your time with losers if you get stuck in a rock-n-roll band.
Do you find it more rewarding to compete with morons throughout this land?"
However, instead of "band" and "land", Greg sings "bau" and "lau".
Jay: "We had adopted the habit of ending every word with au (or ow) because of a friend of ours named Henry whom we called Henrau... so that bled into the song... it's not rock and roll bound, it's actually rock and roll bau,... across the lau..."[1]
Inspirations
Parts of the song's melody appear to be taken from Neil Young's song Op-er-a Star (from the 1981 album Re-ac-tor).
