She came from Heaven, well, there's no point belaboring that,
I've seen some trouble and I must admit that I'm in demand.
I confront rejection with magnetic good intentions and yet,
Hey Jack, get back, in fact, don't do that.
I act sharp but feel uncertain
'Cause next time it could be curtains.
Evangeline,
Conspirator so fine,
Lend me your faith because mine is broken.
Compared to mine,
What is your crime, Evangeline?
Now just to be certain, let's be sure to set the record straight,
I could use an angel, but I don't intend to split up the take.
Never go for treason, but I got reasons that don't warrant debate,
My act's intact and in fact, you're not all that.
You act sure but you're uncertain
'Cause next time it could be curtains.
Evangeline,
Conspirator so fine,
Lend me your faith because mine is broken.
Compared to mine,
What is your crime, Evangeline?
Well, there's no use turning back.
It's already much too late
When the house is burning.
Evangeline,
Conspirator so fine,
Lend me your faith because mine is broken.
Compared to mine,
What is your crime, Evangeline?

I get the distinct impression that in this song the main voice is that of a conqueror of people that uses an evangelistic religion as his conspirator to justify his actions. From this imagary: "It's already much too late / When the house is burning ", I take away that he has commited acts of violence against a group of people that rejected his "magnetic good intentions". He needs to be lended a faith, because he hasn't got one of his own. He's a poser of religious rightousness and commits crimes against humanity, but is the question he leaves you with is whether or not Evangeline, the personification of this religion, is also responsible for his crimes.

I guess no one's a fan of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow? Longfellow wrote an epic poem called "Evangeline" about the Acadian Deportation from what is now known as Nova Scotia, in 1755. Evangeline (literally, God's little angel) is separated from her love, Gabriel, by the English who at the time are fighting the French and Indian War.
The Acadians are rounded up in droves by the English and shipped to their colonies, with no regard for the families that were split in the process. Evangeline searches her entire life to find Gabriel and eventually does, on his death bed. The [French] Acadians were subject to cruelty at the hands of the English and the Protestant American colonists because of their Catholicism. The most settled American lands by the Acadians were all along the Mississippi River; more specifically in Louisiana. Eventually, just as they butchered the word Indian into "Injun" Americans gave the Acadians their new name--The Cajuns.

I think the band is making fun of evangelists and people who sit around and do nothing but preach their religion, especially the friendly little folks who force their religion on another culture and simply kill them if they don't accept it through military zeal. I believe BR is trying to say that they have to accept their new religion when he sarcastically says 'Evangeline, conspirator so fine, lend me your pride 'cause mine is broken, compared to mine what is your crime'.
