I like the banjo in it; it gives it a different feel to it, like an American roots/folk sound (which is what I'm sure Graffin was going after). The banjo can sound very solitary and mournful in a beautiful way when played well... or it can sound like a bunch of 60 year old men in cowboy hats playing at a county fair in rural Tennessee, so I guess it's a fine line with that instrument.

Yes, this is one of Greg's songs and it wouldn't surprise me if he likes The River himself. Not only the melody, even the struckture is quite simular.
Anyway, with that said, this song actually sounds like something from Into The Unknown. Listen from 2:00 to 2:20 and think about Into The Unknown... The drums, the guitars, everything... I wonder if they mixed this way on purpose!

I`m a law student too.
I can imagine that it sounded better just with the acoustic guitar. It`s a bit too much with all the other instruments! But despite of that I`m listening to it all the time! It`s great!

nah it wouldnt be better, i have seen him play that song live alone, and with the band and all the instruments it sounds a lot better and more interesting. and i am sure, a punk-folk song is exactly what he doesnt want to do with that album.

I kind of wish he had left out the electric guitar altogether and either left out the banjo altogether... or had the banjo play FAST all the way through.
It could be a great punk-folk song if he went with the blazing fast banjo and increased the tempo.
It's not bad as it is, but I think it would be better with less instrumentation.

I admit. I went forward in time, stocked Greg, returned to my era, and ripped him off.
I bow to his superior musicianship.

This song's opening first verse is kind of similar to The River.

Billy Barking: this song isn't one of the traditional ones. It's written by Greg.
(I don't know if it's similar to "The River" though -- I'll have to download it and compare)

Yeah, I'll be sure to ask Greg why he didn't sing the song better the next time I see him. What's he trying to pull on us here? He may have sung these songs since he was a kid but Greg CLEARLY has no idea what he's doing.

Are you a psychology student?
It would be a coincidence, but I used to know a german psychology student at the university of innsbruck, who was a bad religion fan and his name was martin. Would be funny!

Now, I don't like folk music too much but I must say, this song isn't half bad. It's not something I'd enjoy listening to every day but Greg sounds really good on this song.

Bad Brett - this song is probably older than ur mom, dad, grandma and grandfather together, anyway, much older than 'the River'... If you don't like it, that's cool.. go buy something else. I like the song,it's fantastic, can't hardly wait to hear the entire album!

A complete rip-off of Bruce Springsteen's "The River". Greg should be fucking ashamed. I'm not gonna spend my money on this shit.
