Co-written by founding members Brett Gurewitz and Greg Graffin, "Honest Goodbye" is inspired by the life and crimes of Perry Smith, the murderer made famous by Truman Capote's classic novel "In Cold Blood." "The song questions how a man with seemingly gentle and artistic sensibilities comes to commit brutally heinous crimes," explains Gurewitz. "It's an emotional song to me that delves into the humanity of forgiveness and retribution."
Currently in rotation on the world famous KROQ, "Honest Goodbye" is replete with the classic Bad Religion sound fans have come to love over the years. Featuring poignant lyrics, crisp harmonies, rhythm-rocking riffs and thick crunchy bass, "Honest Goodbye" adds a dash of edgy anthemic pop to New Maps of Hell's aggressive sound.
New Maps of Hell is set for release on July 10, but fan's can download the new single beginning June 12th and hear it live this summer when Bad Religion hits the road with the 2007 Warped Tour.

I just read a biography kind of thing about Perry Smith, and I find myself now having some sort of a sympathy for the person.. what a sad persuit of life he had. I think I'll grab the book today at the library.

Hey jay what do you think about my video idea?
I'm guessing it's gonna take place with the band playing live on a pirate ship, then Fat Mike appears and captures Graffin and takes him to his space ship. Then the rest of the band get into a giant Jay Bentley (you said you were a UFO on the Big Bang DVD), and then there is an epic battle in outer space between the NOFX space ship and you. Then, at the very end, the guys from NOFX shoot the Jay UFO, and then board it, taking over it. Then, as the Jay UFO flies away, the Suffer boy appears from behind a box in the Jay UFO, and hugs the guys out of NOFX, burning them alive and defeating them. That's what I expect the video to be like though, I didn't go for the long shot or anything. |

updated? i don't even understand how the lyrics are put out wrong in the first place. either you know them or you don't, and the people writing them obviously don't, and don't seem to even have the albums, which is a shame.

Good song and don't forget I said it... buuuut "...delves into the humanity of forgiveness and retribution." Personally I don't hear four lines of verse and a repeating chorus as deep. Kinda just scratches the surface for me. I'm interested in hearing this in context with the rest of the album because right now it seems like a New America b-side. At least its not another Infected, dammit.
