Uhh? What the hell are you talking about? The songs are played in the same key. Of course, like always you can switch chords like C, Fmaj7 and Am, but you said that the chords were the SAME. They're not. Go and pull out that plug of wax and listen to it again.

If anyone wants to disagree, please do, these are the facts:
The riff for the main bit of RFD IS identical in tempo, chord sequence and delivery to No Direction from Generator. Only the fact that chords are played rather than root notes over a suspended E is different. The melody for ND can be sung without deviation to that sequence.
THE REASON this song reminds people of earlier BR tunes is PRECISELY because it is in fact, an earlier BR tune????
Even some of the melody in the sections not using this riff, the tune for ND can be discerned.
Now, don't get me wrong, I love H and M because it feels like early BR but actually isn't ripping anything off from earlier albums.
This is a musical fact and can be proved using theorums and stuff.
STEVE - That sentence you wrote made no sense and sounds like something graffin might come up with when high. Unless you are a buddhist. In which case, stop arguing.

(I think)No.
(my opinion is) Its poor.
(I believe that this is a) Fact.
These brackets are for guinesspunk who is obviously too drunk to understand that most people understand people are metaphysically restricted from doing anything but stating their opinions.
PART III - Thanks buddy for sticking up for me. I get the impression that some of the posters on this board connect to BR in a sort of uncritical manner that is more suited to a church than to a punk rock band. Heaven forbid anyone criticise the masters and dare suggest they probably had an offday when they composed this tune. Part of loving a band (or loving anything) is knowing when to call them on their shit. I don't think there is anything wrong with fans who know their shit (down to detailed bootlegs) saying they happen to think a track is a bit below par.

Since you're all giving your OPINIONS, why don't you all just phrase them as such. If you hate this song, don't start making blanket statements about the fans of the song or the fact that you "know" this song sucks. Just state your opinion and move on. What's the fucking point of trying to change someone's opinion of a goddamn song? If you love it, you love it. If you don't, you don't. Is there any real reason to elaborate? I think this is a great new song from a band that is on top of its game. This song has shades of many Bad Religion eras in it. Given that, it would seem to me that if you don't like this song, there's a lot of Bad Religion you don't like.

yeah, true, I think its a shame they did it over 2 nights, it does kill the whole "live" feeling a bit. Nevertheless, awesome DVD, watched it countless times now. I think I know what vid you are talking about, its the one where Graffin almost cant say the first sentence because he's laughing right? However I believe it were the guitars that fucked up, if my memory serves me right.

Jey - no your points are not intelligent. They continuously fail to engage in the points being made. Sorry mate, thems the fact.
Powedered toast man - my point is Requiem for Dissent is shit and BR can do better, and no doubt will do on the rest of the album. They tend to put songs dumb asses will like on the comps.
Steve Walsh - Random DK reference... No i don't think its an ego issue. Anger managment maybe... Forgive me for passion when I express my ideas. Obviously that kind of thing is off limits in punk rock.
PART III - thanks for actually engaging in the discussion. There is nothing on "palladium" because it is uber slick and cut so as to get rid of errors (it was compiled from 2 nights). One example I recall of Brooks going out of synch is at the start of sinister rouge on the 2004? Rock am Ring footage. He also did it a few times when I have seen them live.

Part III, I agree. Bobby is my favourite BR drummer too. But Brooks is my all time favourite drummer since I heard him playing on a Infectious Grooves CD. When I read in inet hw was joining BR i thought "whoa, my fav drummer in my fav band....". He gave another dimension to BR's sound, and he haven't dissaponted me. Sometimes he tries some difficult fills... of course, but no one else can do it sound as good as he does.

JeyRock, you are a size 45 pair of clown shoes. Why do intelligent bands like bad religion, wind up with such morons as fans... What the hell are you going on about? No one is trying to change Bad Religions style just because they are posting on a bad religion forum about how shitty a new track is? They are trying to express their view about a song that dissapointed them. By your logic, if everyone posting on a board is involved in some redundant activity, why the fuck are you even posting you?? If you don't like message boards , go away.

Papa Smurf - in future, when you claim something is "dummer", try to spell it correctly. Other than that, bad religions sound is great, no one is denying that. I like the evolution of their sound. I agree with you that all these dumb asses who can't get over suffer and no control need to grow up. Why are they still bothering all these years later.
BUT Brooks' drumming is sometimes too complicated - even for him. If you scour BR live shows, tons of times brooks goes out of time because he fucks up a fill etc... At least schayer never missed a beat. But saying that, I am a big Wackerman fan and think he brings a lot to the band. Not sure my comments were worthy of a back lash. Its not that radical to say he sometimes overplays...

"[Brooks] tries too fucking hard. He needs to chill out and simplify sometimes."
Now that is one of the dummer statements i've ever read. Brooks is quite the amazing drummer (legues over Bobby), and frankly i'd rather let him do his thing.
The same goes for Baker - songs like the quickening really had great depth with all 3 guitars playing something a bit different, and then a really neat sounding solo.
I really dig the evolution of Bad Religion's sound, and i'd be very sad to see everything 'simplified' just for the sake of sounding like they used to.

Once more, a bunch of fucking clown shoes...Brooks is a way more eccentric drummer than finestone and schayer in some senses but he tries too fucking hard. He needs to chill out and simplify sometimes. Other times he brings an extra dimension that really works. See... the Defense.
Anyhow, what the fuck is "its not gregs voice that sounds tired its the listeners ears..." What does that even mean? Surely that makes the song worse if my ears, lifelong bad religion listening ears, are tired of the song??
Furthermore I LOVE the other two tracks, my ears are just tired of this song perhaps??? Which is because it shit maybe?
No, go and actually listen to bit where he yells RE-QUI-EM on his own in the last chorus. He sounds lame and lost. On H and M he sounds much much better.

Comparing brooks with bobby is like comparing greg hetson with brian baker. When I listen to BR bootlegs I think half the time, "wow that brain baker solo is excellent, or that brooks drum fill is awesome" but sometimes I think they can do annoying things in a song. And maybe brett, hetson and bobby are "mediocre". But they never annoyed me with their style. And the album "tested" would have never had that particular charming sound without bobby. I like part 3 and punkrock song on that cd because of bobby.

Brooks is the hability made person.
I really enjoy seeing him playing. Bobby was "more bad religion" drummer, but Brooks gave the band other sound. He is the fresh air BR needed. I cant't imagine a Process of belief or a Empire strkes first with Bobby's drumming.

Mr A: There nothing more boring than jumping on the bandwagon. I happen to like Honest Goodbye, but hate this song. I know they can do so much better than this. They already made technically advanced songs back in '93 (All Good Soldiers, Struck A Nerve etc.). I know that many people think that the lyrics are the most important thing in a BR and stuff, but I don't agree. I'd rather listen to a really slow song with att great melody but poor lyrics, than som fast old school song with great lyrics. I like BR because they are talented as musicians and it would be a waste of talent if they only strived to make punk songs like this one. That's the reason why I always skip the songs before LA Is Burning on TESF.

Im totally behind Mr A. on this. Brooks is one of the better technical drummers in his drumming scene. Especially when you compare him with punk drummers. His fills are awesome, just listen honest goodbye, any other drummer would have been playing the heartbeat for at least half the song. Brooks is the best thing that happened to BR in years. Dont get me wrong, I love the Bobby.

Good post, RatGuy.
As for "BR made their best albums in the early 90's but back then they also had an eccentric drummer. Their current drummer (and especially the drumsound on the latest 3 albums) sounds just like NOFX, Pennywise and all those other mediocre bands."
This is one of the stupidest posts yet. You are no drummer, are you? Bobby's meat and potatoes style and tone is "eccentric", while Brooks' highly technical and jazz influenced playing is "mediocre"? Damn...
As a guy in my mid thirties, I'm starting to get sick of this comment section and many of these odd posts. Maybe it was a mistake by BR to make some new songs available, if the only result is childish bickering by know-it-alls half their own age. It's a wonder that Jay and Brett, guys in their forties, are still willing to stick around here and discuss with spoiled kids like some of you.

Capital post @ ratguy, capital.
As much as I love a good lulz, as well as for the ability to express one's opinion, I am also frankly embarrassed and/or amazed by some of the flames/attacks/remarks/lulz found on the news items. Fickle would be an understatement at the amount of flip-flopping that can be read, but I will take it all in stride since the internet wasn't built with training wheels (although AOL did managed to exist for a while...).
All in all though, I think we can all agree that it's nowhere near as bad as most Livejournals though, lawlz.

Some of you guys are so full of shit. If a song sounds different you bitch that they should make music that sounds like (insert favorite BR album here) or whatever individual song they like. But if they make a song that sounds like what they've been doing for the last ten years you bitch that it sounds like they're redoing the same music they've done before. With a few well thought out posts as exceptions, I'm upset I wasted time reading such bullshit opinions. Any overanalysis of the song will not make the band change or continue in their direction to please me so I will refrain from posting it. I liked it and that's that, I will show my support through the purchase of their album and by attending their shows. I hope BR will continue making their own style of music (however it may evolve) and ignore most of their "fan's" opinions.

This song is amazing. They're getting more baroque, with different effects coming together at the same time. It's like all Bad Religion concentrated in a single explosion.

More folk-ish? I bet there will be one or two like that on the new album, with Greg having written a folk album recently. That would actually be pretty cool.

i agree with you Drew. i don't expect this album to cover much new ground musically, with the exception of a beyond electric dreams type song or two.
and in my previous post, i meant to compare requiem to god's LOVE not god song.

Let me ask everyone a question. What exactly are we expecting from this new album? I think the people who like Requiem expect an energetic and passionate album but understand that we're not going to get a completely different sound out of a band that has 14 albums and 25+ years together. Those who don't like it, what would make you like it? Either you like the BR sound or you don't. They aren't changing now.

I'm glad that most people are liking the sound of the new album - i hope it sells well.
I haven't liked any of the 3 leaked songs thus far, but i'm still hopeful there will be one or two songs i enjoy when the album is released.

here's my 2 cents. i think requiem is in the vein of atheist peace (the verse guitar riff and tempo) and god song (the backing vocals and baker's solos). requiem doesn't exactly cover new ground, but it is similar to two of my favorite songs from TESF, and i'm very happy with it. it sounds EXTREMELY energetic to me and full of emotion. just listen to graffin's voice when he sings "requiem!" right after the bridge. what i find weird about this song (in a good way) is how uplifting it sounds. like atheist peace, requiem is quite optimistic/positive, instead of brimming with sarcasm like many BR songs we love. i also think this song is definitely superior than honest goodbye (duh) and heroes & martyrs. heroes is pretty good (well, mainly the chorus), but it seems a little under-developed by BR's standards.

Personally i reckon if the rest of the album continues like these three songs then we're in for a really great album. As for easy to please - are you kidding?? I don't really rate The New America or No Substance as they definitely contained a number of weak songs. Also BR are one of the few bands i still bother with because most new bands, and most of the old bands for that matter, are just not delivering the goods. From the evidence of these three tracks Bad Religion definitely are. I suspect it's not Greg who sounds tired Sigh but the listener. End of.

I like the song personally... It does sound similar to previous stuff so I don't see the "new" sound which has been mentioned but this song (along with the others on the album) seem like it will be quality. Maybe not a return to the 80s-early 90s but anyone who expects that should stop waiting...They can take from the past and build on it but making the exact same stuff is boring for fans and the Band.
I'm not sure what people mean by "the classics". Bad Religion's variation of sound is to me better. Sometimes I am in the mood for a complete listen of something fast like NC and others I like to slow it down with songs from the ends of TESF or TPOB.
But lets not get too worried to make judgements yet...3/16 isn't really much

I'm glad to that most of you guys like this song, but all the three songs we have heard so far are below my expectations...
Requiem is simply a very weak song, Heroes & Martyrs is only a little bit better , but still nowhere compared to the classics.
Honest Goodbye could have been something like Sorrow (which is not a favorite of mine at all), but it even lacks a guitar solo - decent tune though.
I hope the rest of this album (let's not forget there are 13 songs still unrevealed) will have WAY better songs than these three. If these songs represent the overall quality of New Maps then its gonna be one of their weakest efforts.

Continued....
- Unlike the last two new tracks, this displays absolutely nothing new of note in their sound at all. not even subtly. The song, the arrangment, the chord progressions... Graffin even sounds bored at the end of it.
- was well excited when i heard the first two tracks. Now we can safely assume that this album is going to be like the last two albums, stuffed with great stuff but prevented from being a classic album with standard BR by numbers tunes. Still going to buy it though.

Ok, there are some serious clown shoes posting here on this board. On both sides of the requiem debate... My view...
- This has graffin style shitty filler song all over it. I agree with whoever compared it to quality or quantity and what it is. Lets at least be honest about the band we love.
- Metal band? What metal have you been listening to? If anything, metal bands have been trying to emulate punk bands with their emrace of pop hooks...
- It sounds like nothing like anything from TGR or STF. Sounds a bit like some kind of b-side like pretenders or mediocrity... maybe with a bit of that forced pop they sometimes try and go for.
- Riff a bit like no direction? You can pracically sing it over the opening riff.
- what idiot thought this was the best song they have heard in ten years???? What??
- News from the front????? What???? Where???

I totally agree with ag. This song sounds like horrible combination of a shitty filler song on ATG (Quality Or Quanity) and Victims Of The Revolution.
I'm not a huge fan of Sinister Rogue either, in my opinion it was one of the weaker songs on TESF.
I do like the studio version of Heroes and Martyrs, at least it sounds fresh.

Dude, ag, that's just bullshit. So what their new music sounds somewhat heavier than before. It's still kickass music, and definitely not metal. But well, maybe our definitions of metal are a bit different.

Very cool song...but I think Heroes and Martyrs still edges it out for me.
Offspring...I like The Offspring. My favorite by them is 'All I Want'...but that may because it's "a good Bad Religion song," as Mr. Brett said once.
On the opposite side, though, 'The New America' was compared to 'The Kids Aren't All Right' (which came out first). Not that anyone cares about either of those songs...

Sorry but I think some of the words are wrong .. minions.... Sounds like "millions" also sounds like "leaning heavy on your mind" not weighing.. this one im not sure about. Also "And eludes discovery" Also not AND effigy.. An effigy
Requiem of dissent
Oratory of hope and glory, a whisper and a rhyme
An effigy, a soldier out of time
Citizen and patriots, you can't be far behind
The funeral leaning (weighing) heavy on your mind
(Requiem)
Bring the dissent from slumber
(Requiem)
Raise the rebel from his grave
(Requiem)
Sound the revolution's thunder, a monumental plunder, averted and betrayed
Dig around the cemetery a record of the day,
friends and neighbors in stages of decay
But it's sad to see them all and it eludes discovery,
the stimulus of this somber ceremony
-
The sanctimonious millions(minions) how they grovel at the feet
authority is populous deceit,
pity yet another casualty's demoralized decline
just a victim of irrational design

Alex, while I agree that it wasn't "diliberately," I certainly think offspring new exactly what they were doing. They've ripped off BR way too often to think otherwise. Any responsible/respectable musician would attempt to detract a song from being too copycat, even after having written it. Going back to change a part for sounding too similar. But Offspring can get songs on the radio and make hits out of BR stuff no one has heard before. I really don't hate offspring and do enjoy some of their songs, but I certainly think they are the first of the "recipe for success" bands in the whole mall punk vein. Their pioneers for commercialized punk. Even Green Day isn't as bad (if your not counting the new guy-liner thing).

Requim for dissent is fantastic! Sounds so fresh, this is the new Bad Religion. Mix of Stranger than fiction, ATG and Emire Strikes first IMO.
Speaking of Offspring and BR, Meaning of life is my favorite Offspring song, no wonder since it?s so similar to Generator. Never thought of that, but now I see the huge similarities :)
Hope the new offspring album will be a return to form, their last albums is bland. Hit that is a joke.

Jay Bentley came to the Fox radio station and played this song. It kicks ass. Unfortunately, the background vocals on this song are by a shitty band called vanna.

anyone notice the arena rock moment in the middle there with just the bass drum and guitar slowed down.
this song is alive.

The backvocals are pretty hot!
Special drums's beat...hardcore to drum and bass!
Classics BR's guitars riffs.
Near of New From The Front!

What will make this CD the real return of BR:
Back-ups. Greg has a good voice, but the backups/harmonies are what made Bad Religion. They're strength dipped for a while but the back-ups in conjunction with Greg's voice on Heroes and Martyrs as well as this new tune make me melt. This is what it's all about fellas.

Alex: C'mon! Compare the "Oh yeah, oh yeah/Open wide and they'll shove in the meaning of life"-part with the "Oh yeah, oh yeah, like the blood on my door"-part. They're almost identical. Wow...
This song has single handedly made me extremely excited for the new album. I liked the other two songs, but if there are more songs like this one on the album it could be the best Bad Religion album in a while.
I'm interested to see how they do the bridge background vocals live, though. Something tells me they might be a little lost in transition.

Tested always reminded me of Operation Rescue, so the riff probably sounds like both. The very first vocal line reminds me of The Index Fossil, and the whole vibe remins me of God's Love. Good song.
About the Offspring / BR similarities, yes, they are similar, but sorry, Meaning Of Life sounds nothing like Generator. The only simlarity between Operation Resuce and All I Want are the yayayas, and the melody of 'em is totally different.

The Offspring's All I Want was created when they had a "who can write the best Bad Religion song" contest. Dexter obviously won, and showed it to Brett, and then re-wrote the song to song more like an Offspring song. It was originally called Protocol with very different lyrics. Anyways, The Offspring's old stuff (pre-Smash) is great, and Splinter had some good songs too.

The melody of the first verse of Requiem reminds me a lot that Bad Religion Christmas Song that I forgot the name. He says in the chorus something like "ohhh time is a comfortable and joy" something like that..sorry If i messed up the lyrics of that chorus. :) ohhh, but that?s not a problem..

Play this song back to back with News From The Front. They are astonishingly alike. Not the same song, but both incorporate the same conventions (hey!, background gang shouts, etc). And that is my favourite BR song of all time, so...sweet!
I thought that aswell when I first heard it.

FFF, if the album leaks it will definitely not be posted on this site. However you would almost certainly be able to find it using Soulseek (www.slsknet.org) or IRC.

I hope the entire album gets leaked all at once. I dont like to hear one song them wait a while. They wont release it until september (or more) down here in Brazil. So if somebody finds the hole album dont be shy to post it at this site. South american fans will be glad.
PS: Early Offspring work tuned me into punk rock. Unfortunetly they have become a stupid teenage type of band.
Henchman, why dont you try listening to Ignition.

Hey Stars from Sweden, it?s not only meaning of life and generator that are very similar. You can find the same "walk-talk" voice of Individual in their big hit All I Want. In that very same song you can hear the same "Ya ya ya ya ya" as you can find in "Operation Rescue" recorded years before. There must be other things, but I don?t remember...
Michael - maybe Offspring was right not to play with bad religion in Rio, because of that thing with Brett. Thanks for showing it...
My conclusion is, despite of the fights between the two bands, even if Offspring is the winner, I just don?t like Offspring?s sound. I have that right I think. And I don?t like that "hey" backing vocals. It?s a pity they have put it on Requiem.

Sounds a hell of a lot like Leaders and Followers! Which is a good thing by the way but still a nice warm-up I guess. I'm still not too sure about the new album. The three songs so far are "nice" but not TOO great... I don't like the productional sound btw, way too Barresi-vague, BR needs a sprarkling sound!

The lyrics are brilliant! However, it could be that this album has as little to offer musically as TESF and therefore may well become boring very quickly

Why don't we just stop with all this "filler" bullshit, just because you find a song boring or "not as good as (insert song here) on (insert album here)" doesn't mean everyone agrees with you. I really just think people are calling specific songs "fillers" just because they need justification for not liking the song.

Bad Brett, you can't make a statement like, Greg "always puts filler songs" on the record. Its not like Greg recorded each part of the song put it on the record and told Jay, Hetson and co, I'm gonna list you as the bassist, guitarist, etc for this song. Blaming him for "filler songs" is ridiculous. I'd imagine they all have to come to a consensus.
Plus its not like there are "filler songs" that aren't written by Brett. One big one that comes to mind is Beyond Electric Dreams. Dig the song, but you can't say its better than What It Is or Destined For Nothing.

BRILLIANT song! Sounds like 40% ATG, 50% STF and the other 10% new type of BR. Easily the best of the three released so far in my opinion. Great old style BR solo. Raw, mean and with a great melody.

"I realy dig how Brooks finaly got the spirit of Bad Religion"
What? It took me 15 seconds of Supersonic to hear that Brooks was a great fit from the get go! I think his drumming fits BR's style better than the playing of his predecessor - and I like Bobby's drumming, although it was a tad too 'military marches' at times. Bad Religion's (album) sound changed considerably after Finestone's departure, and Schayer's drumming was an integral element of that change IMO.
And I have to emphasise it again, the production on 'Requiem' is amazing, this is world's apart from the fuzzy sound of the Recipe For Hate era. Great job, Mr. Brett and Mr. Barresi!

the way of singing, especially the first sentence reminds me of How Much is Enough... mmmmm goddamn what an awesome song. but indeed, it also has a shade of being a The Gray Race bside. Not bad, not bad at all, those hold some of the most briliant songs. IMO.

"Well, I regret all the bad things I said about the Offspring in the press when they left. We were kind of airing our dirty laundry and speaking out emotionally. I should have kept that all to myself. That's the main thing."
Did you take it personally when the Offspring left Epitaph for Columbia?
"I did, and I shouldn't have. I learned a lesson there. It's business. It's not personal. I owe a great debt of gratitude to the Offspring camp, and I feel extremely comfortable saying that. I hope they read that."
This was taken from a recent interview done with billboard.com.
i hope one day dexter post a response to that

i hate it when bands have falling outs with record labels (nitro records and afi another example)
i think now dexter would have played with bad religion in rio because there was a lot of bad blood between them then i think that show was in 97 or 98 could be wrong but in a interview last year brett even apologized to dexter
it was a good read let me find the link

Hey Michael, I understand what you are saying, but I am not mad with Offspring because they left Epitaph. Bad Religion left as well. There are a lot of things that i don?t like in Offspring, but that it?s just my opinion, but I don?t blame to like them, it?s a very good band. I don?t like their sound and their atitude. The 2 main things are.
1 - they sound very close to Bad Religion and when Dexter was asked about it he said their influences were Dead kennedies, Ramones, etc but not Bad Religion. That?s amazing!
2 - Offspring was going to play in Rio. Then they put Bad Religion to play the same day. I bought the fucking ticket written "Vandals, Bad Religon and Offspring". But The Offspring didn?t want to share the stage with Bad Religion. Brett is one of the responsibles for Offspring?s success, how could they do this to Bad Religion?? Even if they were to share the money ( I don?t think that was the case)....
Anyway, I don?t think they suck!! I respect them..

@Henchman why can't you stand offspring i know a lot of br fans don't like them because the falling out with epitaph but i think they are great they are the reason i got into br and ignition got me into punk rock but i just can't figure out why br fans hate offspring if you skip the joke songs they are pretty damn good
their last cd splinter had about 3 good songs but i think there new album will go back to the ignition/smash type sound
that was my offspring rant

i cant wait a month, if the album is available for download i will download it, i will buy it anyway as soon as i can (here in Venezuela takes so long for them to arrive, and the shipping takes some time too)
sounds a lot like the gray race to me, but with the against the grain attitude

The lyrics in conjunction with the song's construction, especially the "Req! Uie! Em!" and the harmonies, is simply genius. All 3 of the leaked songs are so much cleverer compared to the past few albums; they're more abstract and timeless (sure, there are some exceptions). Moreover, the quintessential BR use of long and convoluted words has been cut down in exchange for a more concise and intellectual method. I prefer that, it shows BR using their experience and poetic capacity, with their unique perception of punk rock. Basically, it's an awesome tune.

The song is very good but I prefer the others. And I certainly don?t like the "hey" backing vocals. You can blame if u want, it?s just personal opinion. It reminds me of Offspring, a band that I can?t stand..

I'm not going to listen to it. Although the occasional negative comment tempts to (to dispell any forms of doubt), there was more negative attitudes expressed towards the other songs, which I love. I think I can wait this time.

hahahaha i agree. I think it probably is the best of the last 10 years, certainly one of the top 3. If the rest of the album has this intensity it will certainly be the best album since STF, maybe even earlier.

Sweetfuckingjesus, I just shit my pants, and I mean literally.
That might possibly be the best song Bad Religion has released in 10 years. I've got to go change my pants. No wait, I've got to listen to it a few more times first. I don't want to have to do a whole load of laundry.

They played Punk Rock Song last time they were here in Sweden (August 2005)... if there's some song I really wanna hear live, it's Billy.

indeed, even if anymore leaks come my way, I will refuse to post them; personally, I think 3 songs leaked is enough until the actual release of the album (it's only one more month guys). Besides, I learned my lesson last time: listening to the album before it's released kinda gave me the wrong impression. Then again, last time it was like almost 2/3 months leaked before release, but still, point remains.
Besdies, the new Bad Brains cd comes out a few weeks before the BR one. That should hold some people off from listening to a leak :D.

Uhm, Bad Brett from Sweden, first off, it's "The Gray Race" and scondly, this song would have been one of the best songs on that album. And if Jay and Brett feel like kicking some asses on this website for posting the leak of this new song, they will do exactly that. So please stop your bitching kids, it's starting to get annoying. Anyway, thanks for "Requiem For Dissent" - PLAY IT LOUD I say!

thanks for the responses about atg, and to john from gibraltar, im 100 percent sure they dont have it on the palladium, but all video footage ive seen of their concerts in europe, it is always played...and on another side note, shattered faith and the fast life are amazing songs..how come they were only released in europe? how do they decides what makes the album and what doesnt...shattered faith could have easily been the title track, and def. could have taken the place of any one of the later tracks...for those of you havent heard them, do yourself a favor and you tube them, there is an awesome live performance of the fast life

To d.adrian: You might know that both Jay and Brett frequent this site, hell, Brett posted the lyrics to the leaked songs. If we get the smallest complaint from either one of them, we will take it down immediately. (This is NOT an invite to pretend you're either one of them, we have IP comparisons.)
And we are never going to post the entire album, if it leaks, well, we can't keep you from commenting on it, but we will not post links to where you can download the album.
And I do trust that pretty much everyone will buy the album even if having downloaded songs, we're all fans in the end.
On a completely unrelated note, I envy everybody who's heard the new songs. I vowed I won't listen to them as long I don't have the record. :(

If you listen to the Jay Bentley episode of the BR podcast, he talks about what he makes of downloading their songs. If you're just gonna download it, then he thinks (rightly) that you're stealing, but if you will buy the album after he can accept it.
But please listen to the episode for the exact details, and the rest of the interview which is excellent.

Regarding whether this is "right on wrong":
I met Jay in some bar two years ago, and told him about downloading their stuff - confirming, which is true, that I still go out and get the albums when they are finaly released. He say something to the effect of "sure thing, cool with me". Maybe Brett as a record company man sees things differently, but I cant imagine he has too much of a problem with it. This is the way things are now - deal with it.

They always play Punk Rock Song in Europe where this song was a "hit". For some reason they don't play it much in usa.
I saw them play Against The Grain here in San Sebastian (Spain) during the New America tour. First song of the encore.
BTW the new song is AWESOME.

Sam, i think tey play punk rock song often. Its on Tested, Palladium and I've heard it every time I've seen them live.
Against the Grain is different. I once hear Jay say (in an interview on the Brpodcast) that they never play it because they couldnt get the guitars to sound as they wanted; or something like that.

since i cant start my own thread, i really need to ask this question...ive been lucky enough to go to 25 to 30 BR concerts b/c i'm from southern Cal, and in all those concerts, i have yet once to hear against the grain nor punk rock song?...does anyone have any info as to why they don't play these live?..on a related side note, i first got into br after process of belief, and backtracked since then, and they have played numerous old songs since then live, just not those 2

i think they are saying
but its sad to see them all, It eludes discovery...as in they aren't learning from what they see...
in response to Bad Brett, i actually prefer greg, as you prefer brett, and destined for nothing, what it is..and a lot of other b-sides like the fast life, leaders and followers are some of my favorite songs...i feel about songs such as boot stomping on a human face forever and beyond electric dreams like i imagine you feel about the ones you mentioned...and one of my favorite b sides is news from the front, and i think brett wrote that one

The chorus over the solo is awesome.
After a couple of listens that line is almost certainly, "But it's sad to see them all elude discovery". Kudos to Some Guy and moderman85 for getting the rest though. Hopefully Brett will come along here soon with the complete lyrics.

"The last thing we can do at this stage is start to sound like a caricature of ourselves."
The reason everybody loves this song is because it sounds like a The Grey Race B-side. Some of you even admit it by saying:
"hmmm Sounds like something from Stranger Than Fiction... wich is a good thing!"
It's NOT a good thing. I'm sure Greg is behind this. He always put filler songs on records, like "Destined For Nothing", "What It Is", "Modern Day Catastrophies" etc.

This isn't a b-side or anything, this is a track from the upcoming album which is also on the Warped Tour Compilation.
The next thing you'll be posting must be the album, right? This borderlines to wrong for me.
B-sides are ok, because they are sometimes almost impossible to find and buy, and they are not intented for bands to make money, but to please fans, but this is just lame. This is like ripping singles. Meh.
I like getting leaks of songs hell if the album leaks I'll download it mainly since it should leak soon. But just because I'm going to be downloading it doesn't mean I'm not going out to buy it when it comes out. I downloaded TESF a month before it came out here an bought it the day it was released

This is awesome, it's got a sense of the band's older sound, while sounding completely new at the same time. I agree with all those saying this will be amazing live ... now just for BR to get over to the UK!

you know, it might just be "elude discovery"
Since "elude" and "discovery" end and start with 'd' they blend together. Plus it makes sense in the context

With corrections, here's what we've got so far:
Oratory of hope and glory, a whisper and a rhyme
and effigy, a soldier out of time
Citizen and patriots, you can't be far behind
The funeral weighing heavy on your mind
-
(Requiem)
Bring the dissident from slumber
(Requiem)
Raise the rebel from his grave
(Requiem)
Sound the revolution's thunder, a monumental plunder, averted and betrayed
-
Dig around the cemetery a record of the day,
friends and neighbors in stages of decay
But it's sad to see them all... discovery,
the stimulus of this somber ceremony
-
The sanctimonious minions how they grovel at the feet
authority is populous deceit,
pity yet another casualty's demoralized decline
just a victim of irrational design

About that lyric. Think about the context. It has something to do with seeing your friends in a cemetary. It's sad to see your friends and neighbors "blank"

My attempt to understand the lyrics:
Oratory of hope and glory, a whisper and a rhyme
and effigy, a soldier out of time
Citizen and patriots, you can't be far behind
The funeral weighing heavy on your mind
-Chorus-
(Requiem)
Bring the dissident from slumber
(Requiem)
Raise the rebel(?) from his grave
(Requiem)
Sounds the revolution sunder(?), a monumental plunder, a burden and betray(?)
Dig around the cemetery a record of the day,
friends and neighbors in stages of decay
?????????... discovery,
the stimulus of this somber ceremony
-Chorus repeat-
The sanctimonious minions how they grovel at the feet
authority its populous deceit,
pity yet another casualty demoralized decline
just a victim of irrational design
