Epitaph Records have just put up a very thoughtful interview. Greg and Brett answer questions about the new album, MySpace, dinosaurs and more. It's a great read.
Stylistically and thematically, what can we expect from the new album?
Brett: Well, stylistically, you're going to hear some classic Bad Religion songs that could have come from our No Control/Against the Grain era, and you're also going to hear some experimental songs that have a sound that we've never tried before. A couple very aggressive, and a couple quite poppy. So, conceptually, the reason we called it New Maps of Hell, we liked the concept of maps because we wanted to pay tribute to where we've come from, but also explore new territory.

Do you have any last words for your fans?

Greg: If you leave me now, you'll take away the greatest part of me. But really, we would like to thank everybody. We know it's cliche, but if they only knew how importantly we really do view our fans as the reason we're doing this, and we don't take it for granted when anybody shows up, and it motivates us to give the best show that this 41-year old body can give.
Brett: That sums it up. Hey, Tony, thanks for doing this interview. It was a really good interview with really original and good questions. Your questions were thoughtful and I really appreciate that.
Tony: Thanks.

Dear Mr. Gurewitz, if you want to add one of the best british bands of the last 15 years to the Epitaph roster, resurrect the defunct CHINA DRUM and sign them! CHINA DRUM recorded two of the best melodic punkrock albums ever, GOOSEFAIR and SELF MADE MANIAC. Very nice guys (and BR fans), too! I find it amazing that Graffin listed Jethro Tull as a favourite band! I always had trouble rationalizing my loves of BR and (some. early.) Tull. Quite a surprise!

oh god, Jau, Palladium rocks really really hard. I'd say it's the definitive live BR (officially at least).
I find it encouraging that the whole band seems to be having so much fun being in the band now, it seems the darker years have been completely forgotten, and that's great. Here's to another 14 albums! but if not, at least it will end on a high note. |

I watched Live at the Pallidium again last night (for maybe the 5-6th time), and I still cant hold my laugh when Brian talks about his early punk years : "I went to a highschool in 1980 where all the coolest kids were punk rockers, so I joined a team of outcasts in order to fit in." Hilarous sarcasm.

Its also funny Greg mentioned Tool as what he's currently listening to. I had this feeling when hearing the 30 sec. previews that some parts were Tool-alike.

Very nice interview, that part made me laugh :
Brett: You were good looking, Greg. Greg: I never thought so, though. The only guy who knew he was good looking was Jay. Brett: Do you think he knew it? Greg: He was a surfer dude. They all know it. Hahaha... Brian is so funny with all the bands he's bitching. I remember a few years ago a fan took pictures of all BR gears, and there was a sticker on Brian's amp reading "Everybody is better than Limp Bizkit". |

Korn are crap, it'a shame not everyone knows about Headphones President though: japanese band that basically does what Korn attempted, only that HP kicks ass.
And GC? It's a never a good sign when your drummer says your band sucks and leaves, lulz. |

And on a sidenote, I've been listening to a lot of Tom Waits lately. Especially his Anti- records. It was nice to hear Brett naming him as one of his proudest signings.

Greg even says at one point that they only have 14 albums, but I think he says it because he doesn't want anyone to do the math and see one missing and have that lead to them listening to into the unknown. are they THAT ashamed of it. i love every god damn song on that record. i think the presentation could be better, but musically and structurally speaking, it is amazing and nothing in the BR world would give me more joy than to see them rework it into a new record or even play reworked versions as a live set sometime. as long as they nix the keyboards and shorten a couple tunes (or speed them up) i think it'd be amazing.
