Personally, I enoyed the album very much. My favorite would still have to be No Control, but there is nothing wrong with The New Maps of Hell. It is a solid release that stands up well in the line set by The Process of Belief and The Empire Strikes First.
The great thing about Bad Religion, in my opinion, is how they have not been afraid to experiment, but don't stray too far from what makes them a good band. They are consistant, and provide a visceral aural experience that helps that drive to and from work far more enjoyable.
I'd give it a solid 8/10. Not their best offering, but there's some definite classics on this album.

Those chartpeaks don't mean a thing. Look at stranger than fiction and the new america. 87/88. Stranger than fiction sold like half a million and the new america ( and I am not so sure, but my guess) 150.000. And I think the gray race was more succesful in europe than stranger than fiction. And I don't really like the new album as much as the process of belief. I know when something is good. I want to play it all the time. I don't have that with new maps. But for new fans it may sound fresh and great.

I say it again: Best album since Stranger Than Fiction, best production since Against The Grain (minus the vocals being mixed a bit too low on two songs). While Process Of Belief sounded a bit too streamlined, polished and unperilous, The Empire Strikes First was a bit too meandering and lost some spiritedness towards the end. On New Maps Of Hell, the "classic" fast songs are felicitous, the "experimental" stuff is still sinewy (Brooks' drumming saves the outro of Submission Complete) while the lyrics and topics are appealingly enciphered. Plus, the album closes in a fashion unheared of since 1990.

I love the new album, sans a few clunkers which are unavoidable these days. Good job fellas!

I don't complain about the sound, I complain about the music, it's mediocre. It's always the same but weaker. I wish they evolved but that's not something I demand from them 'cause they are not capable of doing it, so I just ask for decent music. FYI, take a look at these same boards only to see if people are "happy" as you make it out to be.
Now if you want blind sheep only then don't count me in.

21,000 x $10 per record average = $210,000
...and they're worth every single cent.

You're entitled to your opinion. We've heard it. But to continue to criticize or "slam 'em" in a forum full of fans who actually like the band and the album BECAUSE of their consistency degrades your opinion and makes you just another troll looking to start a flame war.
Say what you will, you'll receive no further attention from me, for Gooooser has made a fine response already.

To Thomas :
If you want the OLD BR, you'll have to stick to the old albums. Sadly, the guys are matured, and this is how they see things now. + the sound is modern, you'll never get that No Control/Suffer/Generator sound anymore, not the way they record the stuff.
I think that people who did not evolve the same way the band did, must simply accept that it's not 1980s/90s anymore, they're 40+ for god sake !!! They know what they want to sound like, and they do it the way they want to.

Why leave them alone? Why can't I slam'em if they deserve it? I've read many more posts here and on other boards criticizing this latest effort. I'm not asking them to reinvent themselves 'cause that's something they can't do, but at least put out a decent album... they've been putting out shit for more than a decade now.

"the new album is bland and uninspired. I see I'm not alone here."
True, you're not totally alone - but pretty much. Want an artist reinventing himself on almost every album? Check out Frank Zappa and leave BR alone.

the one day i decide to take a break from waking up earlier and compulsively checking the inbox, i miss all these news :\.
and yea, I thought STF was more mainstream, but honestly, it wouldn't surprise me that this album sells better due to the increase of fans since POB & TESF, and with the said "comeback trilogy" now complete.

Really? Where did Stranger Than Fiction debut? That seems a much more mainstream-friendly affair than NMoH.

My dream would be a show where all they play is songs that they never play live, or have only played once or twice.
Billy
Beyond Electric Dreams
The whole Into The Unknown album
Progress
all of the Bsides
etc
chances of that, very very very very very very very low.
