I also imagine that with all of this coding used on Facebook, it could potentially be easier to be hax0rd? Although, Myspace is pretty easy to hack. Also, I don't know if everyone's situation is different, but I don't get any spam from Myspace (discounting the bulletins, since you can ignore that), while I constantly get email spam from Facebook.

Sorry, I get off topic to often. Yes, it's probably a good idea to oppose facebook, I'm just saying it's a better idea to oppose myspace since it sucks more, even though facebook also reprsents what also sucks equally, which is this Web 2.0 psuedo-networking juggernaut. It could be useful though, but your right in opposing it on principle: this Web 2.0 b.s. could very well end up leading people to give up their information all too easily at a poor point in history where the threat to privacy (not to mention the very basics rights of the citizen and rights to privacy) is at an all time high.
I plan on giving facebook a try, but I'm not going to go nuts over it ;D.

its nice to hear about facebook from a web designers perspective. really.
but would anybody here care to state his opinion on what i posted down there? i think people can make a difference by choosing to ignore this bullshit site altogether.
and really, if you only like fb cause its "not run over with spam", then youre forgetting the important word YET.

Yea actually; they already made a facebook plugin thing similar to last.fm, I would imagine it wouldn't be hard/just a matter of time before someone develops a more streamlined version of a music player for bands to use, especially as facebook's popularity takes off :D.

"Truly epic lulz"
I thought that I'd post this just because Myspace is involved.

I see. So it doesn't have any features for bands? Not interested.
Though, I guess you could potentially just create your own code with a music player somewhere on the page, right? Hmm...

Facebook also launched an application platform which provides a framework for developers (anyone) to create applications that interact with core Facebook features (MySpace does not do this). For this reason alone, I consider Facebook considerably more useful (or at least potentially so). This is also what i meant by google being scared by them, as facebook is increasingly becoming popular. I wouldn't be surprised if spam problems became worse than myspace when the populairty catches up, as it's being shown that people are getting tired of myspace making their eyes bleed with a terrible, archaic layout.
*sorry for commenting on the layout so much, im a little bit of a web designer so it grinds my gears a little.

I'm fairly new to the whole facebook thing, but from what I know:
+ Compared to Myspace, it is nowhere near the level of sold-out media wordem and is considerably less juvenille than myspace, from design (looks) to how it is used. Facebook is used for actual networking (a few of my friends have talked about making facebook specific accounts as an additional online portfolioin case they want to look for certain jobs); whereas MySpace isn't specifically for networking, and is considerably abused via web predators (although Facebook could as well), abused by people who have no sense in designing anything and who just spam their accounts into oblivion...

Also, I'm too lazy to find out for myself, as the only reason I use Myspace is for the band profile and, from my understanding, Facebook doesn't have something like that?

@Jau:
Zuh?
Yeah, I got kinda mixed up with that post, damn word limit! Anyways, what I want to know, is what's the deal with Facebook? What makes it so different from Myspace (or Friendster, if you're old-school like that)? I mean, with Myspace, you can do more (from my understanding) what with the whole Myspace videos, and different accounts like Bands (which is what I have), comedians, etc. Meh, damn internetz.

and you know, what im saying about facebook there is the truth. those facts about it are out there if you care to ask them.
now ask yourself: this site doesnt have any positive value for anybody, cause everything you can do with it can also be done on other websites (discussion: here, photo uploads: photobucket, rest: myspace).
it does, however, have negative aspects to it.
now im asking: the bad religion fan community, you guys here. dont you think that we should take pride in asking these questions? and questioning these new web2.0 trends? and maybe choose to disregard them when they dont have anything to bring to the table?

i think most of y?all disregarded my FIRST sentence i posted down there. facebook is, indeed, the devil. or at least his tool.
im being serious this time, the mainstream thing was just meant to be funny. i mean im 29 years old and dont really care about this stuff anymore, sorry i hid that joke too well.
the point although is, that facebook is utter shit. all that site does is collect personal data about people and sell it to data miners. and even if you dont care about that, its about the un-safest site on the internet. i mean the photo issue. the data on your facebook site is not protected by any means. its a huge privacy issue. but if you here dont care about this kinda stuff, im wasting my time.
im just sure im never gonna use it, because my privacy is worth more to me than this stupid "networking" 2.0 that used to work without facebook too, i.e. by using THIS SITE RIGHT HERE.

I understand the whole 'facebook is too mainstream' argument. I mean, all I hear is 'hey, you got a Facebook?' 'You hear of Facebook?' 'Why don't you get a Facebook?' There isn't a day that goes by that I don't hear of someone talking about Facebook. I also think it produces much more, and worse, spam than Myspace. Sure, you might not get any annoying bulletins about someone telling 80 things about themselves, but I always get tons of emails saying 'This person added you to Facebook'. Bah!

I think people will begin to realize, after years of debate on the internets, that it's how you use the mainstream, not whether you use it at all.
Either that, or the epidemic of people selling-out as a logical choice (especially for people who worked years for that B.S. or M.S. degrees only to find there isn't that many jobs out there) as a means to ensure a halfway-decent standard of living is more widespread than thought :\.

If you avoid Facebook because it's too mainstream for you, you probably ought to avoid most of the rest of the internet too. Google is definitely out of the question. Hell, if you're really serious about your ways, maybe you should just forego use of the internet all together.

MySpace is utter sh*t. There is too much spam there, even when they do have a few good random bands and a few well establish bands making good use of it, the look of myspace is a web designer's nightmare. And all the "networking" that my friends seems to do is post pointless garbage top whatever lists and stupid chain messages.
Facebook, on the other hand, looks elegant and to my knowledge, nowhere near the level of spam. They are also quickly become google's nightmare in terms of development (they released their API public a little while ago), and while we all rooted for google at first, it would be nice to have someone else keep them on their toes.
I think a Facebook for this site would actually be useful, for what I'm not sure, but it would be useful for something.
