Brooks joins Thrash Band

Now here is a supergroup for you! The basic 411 from their Myspace: Vocalist Brandan Schieppati (Bleeding Through), drummer Brooks Wackerman (Bad Religion, Tenacious D, ex-Suicidal Tendencies), guitar player Dave Nassie (No Use For A Name, ex-Infectious Grooves) and bass player Ryan Sinn (ex-The Distillers) have joined forces, united by their shared love of the power of heavy metal, under the banner of The Innocent and are preparing to lay waste to any preconceived notions about the unlikely combination of heroes from the divergent Ozzfest, Warped Tour and rock n' roll worlds.

As grinding death metal reemerges, thrash metal makes an exciting comeback and the trendy also-rans of the last few years deservedly fall out of favor, it's time for skillful fretwork, mature song-craft and breathtaking musicianship altogether to conquer to take its rightful place once again. It is time for The Innocent.

Boasting an arsenal of a handful of songs crafted together in the evening hours in Orange County when their other projects have allowed a break from touring or recording here and there, The Innocent is ready to show its collective face and make its presence known as a force unto itself beyond its collective members resumes.

I mean, the "harsh" verse / melodic chorus vocals were interesting on Fear Factory's Soul Of A New Machine and Demanufacture, 15 years ago. But the current black fingernailed emo/screamo and the "metalcore" bands copying that vocal style and ripping off the Gothenburg death metal guitar playing are just lame beyond belief. I stick to the classics instead. If I want crossover and Hardcore, I listen to Sick Of It All and Suicidal Tendencies and if I want thrash, I go back to bands like Slayer, Kreator and the Bay Area scene. Maybe Brooks could try more technical and jazzy fusion type metal ? la Spastic Ink, Atheist or Cynic instead - at least that's not as played out.
