Update (Oct. 29): The full album is now streamed by Epitaph.
Update (Sept.17): It appears that the album will also be released on 12" vinyl. As usual this one comes with a bonus cd of the album. The release date of this LP is November 26.
Update (Sept. 10): Epitaph just confirmed the release on Twitter. The artwork has also been published by both Epitaph and the band.
Update (Sept. 8): An anonymous source has confirmed that the 8 Christmas songs are indeed new studio recordings!
Over the years Bad Religion has played many Christmas songs, mostly during the KROQ Almost Accoustic Christmas shows. Although no official word from Epitaph, it now seems that a "Christmas Songs" cd will be released on October 29.
According to MusicTAP the album will have nine classic holiday favorites:
It's hard to tell what this will turn out to be: a compilation of the existing recordings or all new studio recordings... In particular, the last song (American Jesus) has already been released before on a 1993 American Jesus promo cd and God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen was on the 1997 Holiday Sampler. Only time will tell.

The opening chorus of the first song "Hark.." is awesome. Yes the recording is all new. American jesus is the same with the recipe album version just the bass is a little higher. My fave songs are "god rest ye" & "what is this child" .. They sound great.. It's on itunes now.. At europe btw...

If this IS real, I think that "Bad Religion: Fucking Sellouts" would be a more appropriate title than "Bad Religion: Christmas Songs".
I don't get it. Do you think BR's message has been "no Christmas songs!" all this time? They have numerous songs with Bible references. What's changed, suddenly? Where did the "selling out" line get crossed, in your mind?

This made me chuckle:
http://m.noisey.vice.com/blog/is-bad-religions-christmas-album-ironic-or-not
Oh man, wanna hear something hilarious? Bad Religion are putting out a Christmas album this year! ...Well? Don’t you get it? It’s ironic, dummy! The band isn’t really putting out a Christmas album. Well technically, they are. But they’re a bunch of anti-capitalistic atheists, so it’s just a joke! Ha! Ha! Laugh along, stupid!
But wait, is Bad Religion’s Christmas album really an ironic joke though? Because releasing an album is a lot of work. Almost too much work for a joke. ...But nah, it’s probably a joke. They probably did all the work ironically. First, they “learned” 8 traditional Christmas songs (LOL yea rite). Then they scheduled time to “rehearse” and “practice” them (*eyeroll*). And then they paid to reserve time in a studio and “record” them (*makes jerkoff motion for 5 straight minutes*). Oh man, good one, Bad Religion!
Next month, they’ll release the album and “sell” it on Amazon where it’s already available for pre-order for $10.99. Amazon recommends that you’ll also like Barbra Streisand’s Christmas album. Facepalm, Amazon! Try to keep up here. You’ve got to be in on the joke, like Epitaph Records, who will promote it as if it’s a real album. They’ll put ironic dollars into advertising and distributing it in stores. Man, this is classic!
And then, here’s the kicker: Bad Religion fans will go out and actually buy the album for each other for Christmas. “Oh, man! You got me the Bad Religion Christmas album? I got you the Bad Religion Christmas album! We are such good friends and we both love punk rock and humor! We should tooooootally ‘listen’ to this album.”
Dr. Graffin is a smart dude. He saw how popular those Descendents holiday sweaters were last year and he wanted a piece of the action. He knows that if there’s one thing punk kids like, it’s latter day Bad Religion albums and holiday classics like “Little Drummer Boy.” Combine those two ironically and Christmas Songs is the must-have gift of the season. It’s the Furby of 2013!
Oh man, you know what makes this whole thing even funnier? The fact that Bad Religion is one of the longest-running, smartest, and most respected punk bands around and their credibility would immediately sink to the floor if they released a Christmas album for real. Good thing it’s a joke.

The Oozin Aahs on Angels We Have Heard on High will be sweet. The four part harmonies on the sheet music is a good match to Graffin's 4 layer harmonies.... I would've also liked to see "run Rudolph run" by chuck berry.

Most Xmas CDs come out at the end of October IIRC (Actually, the only one I'm aware of is the She & Him album that came out a couple of years back, but I remember that was at the end of October ;D ).
Personally I try not to listen to Christmas music before December, but I understand why it's a good idea to have it in the shops for November, especially when you consider how awkward it is to get things delivered on time these days.
Also this is going to rule.

Seriouly, it has become a tradition, with my wife, to listen to BR christmas tracks when preparing food in the holidays ... We listen to the whole playlist maybe twice ... or three times ... and it's always fun ... but making an album out of it ? I am honestly not sure ... and the release date seems to far from Christmas ...
I'm afraid it could turn into a self-parody of the band
Interesting thought. Care to elaborate? I wonder how doing something they have pretty consistently (if rarely) done could have this effect, unless you mean doing it as a major release.
I think if they modify the lyrics in a tongue-in-cheek way (like they have on the previous xmas songs), even for some of the tracks, it will be OK. But if they are just straight performances that might be a little weird. Either way, I'm thrilled to see so much more recorded output, and an official release of the Andy Wallace Mix! In my opinion it is far superior to the album version.

At risk of repeating myself.. Hetson will never play with BR again... I went to the future and back, so I know better...
I'm not sure about this record though, seems like a strange idea.. if the tunes are not heavy as fuck, I'm afraid it could turn into a self-parody of the band ( does that mean anything ?)

At risk of repeating myself.. Hetson will never play with BR again... I went to the future and back, so I know better...
I'm not sure about this record though, seems like a strange idea.. if the tunes are not heavy as fuck, I'm afraid it could turn into a self-parody of the band ( does that mean anything ?) |

I *think* they recorded these songs while they were in the studio doing that No Use For A Name cover. And if I remember correctly, someone mentioned on Twitter that it was also with Mike.
i know this info for a few week
Yes, you mentioned it in the shoutbox... Then someone asked you where you heard it. But you never replied.
Next time you hear/read something, please submit it to us (after all, we can't monitor the shoutbox 24/7) and mention the source: http://www.thebrpage.net/news/report_news.asp

I wonder who in band voted Nay for including Last Christmas. It's probably Jay who went: "No way I'm playing on this record if you guys want to do Last Christmas. I'm walking out of the studio! I'm not kidding.... I'm gone like it's 1983 again!"

Two days before Hallowe'en is far too early for a Christmas album. Even if I am looking forward to it.
Recipe for hate was remixed becaused they weren't happy how it came out. I think that info can be found in the info about the album.
The whole RFH album was 'remixed' before it was released (source). So the "Andy Wallace" remix is something entirely different.
Haven't done a comparison yet myself, but here's the remix version: http://www.mediafire.com/?q4esn6t9cyzf14k
Even if the christmas songs are new studio recordings, American Jesus seems awfully out of place here. Almost like "hey, let's throw some random song on here as well"...

Anyone know how things work with the Andy Wallace mix? I know the song was recorded while they were at Epitaph, but didn't they only start working with Wallace when they went to Atlantic? If this is real, I'm really looking forward to it. I wonder if they'll rerecord God Rest Ye... seeing as how it's titled differently from the old version here.

I was gonna guess that this would be something unofficial, consisting of live recordings and stuff like that - but all of those songs haven't been played live, have they?
