Alright, this is getting ridiculous. We're all here because we're fans, right? Well then, instead of throwing shit fits over chart positions and how much money each band member makes per year, why don't we just sit back and enjoy the music? They've got to make money to support themselvs, their families, touring and record-making expenses. They've lasted for 25 years, and it's been great, and I hope they last for at LEAST another 5. End of story.

Don, you should cut the hate. what the fuck have i done to you? if you could actually read what i first wrote, you?d see that i don?t actually feel proud for not liking STF back then.
the other stuff that you are mentioning is also not really fitting, because it?s not actually on the official BR page that tells us all that (new car, chart position, vote for video, blah blah blah), but on this very fansite. i think that?s a huge difference.
i could be wrong though. maybe they themselves do actually act this way today. but, as i can only repeat, i don?t care about this kind of stuff anymore. because i only care about the music now.
i wonder, by the way, if you meant "US" as in "united states". if so, forget it. that country can suck my ass.
The Gray Race, however, is one of my favorite BR albums.
greetings, m

Well Mr. I quit the punk rock police a long time ago Martin,it's become rather obvious that if BR didn't care about money, chart success, and videos then why in the FUCK are they still making them?
What's really sad is that they're telling everyone to vote for their videos, buy our records, what we sold last week and what were selling this week, watch us on CNN,Brett gets a new car,blah,blah,blah.........
I certainly don't know what Germanic fantasy world you're living in I don't like STF because it charted but I enjoy living here in the real world
.Come Join US!
Oh sorry I can't like that song because it charted at #2 with a bullet.............

@Don. do you actually think they were ever in it for the money or the charts positions? or worse, the music video channels? no man, back in the 80s and early 90s no videos of BR were played anywhere, and they didn?t appear in any charts. it?s time that this discussion here ends.

@someone. man are you cool. you?ve just got the best and only taste in music that counts, am i right? besides, i was talking 12 years ago you asshole.
@Garret. i?m pretty sure the guys in the band didn?t really live off that band until maybe 8 years ago. and at least greg g. and brett have other sources of income and jobs. so where?s the problem? we?re not really talking a pop band or rolling stones here.

Well will they have enough to live on in another five years?
Think about it!
They better hope they get to #1 at this point in their career because without certain chart positions they'll be all but forgotten and wont have enough money to live on and then what?

I don't see why we should be all that concerned about chart positions, as BR make enough to live on with touring and album sales. Surely that's enough?

i still can?t believe that we?re having this discussion here. when i started listening to and buying BR, nofx, lagwagon, pennywise and what not, they never were in the charts in the first place. i actually hated Stranger than Fiction back then because it charted. now i don?t care about that anymore, because i quit at the punk rock police. but my point is: where?s the goddamn difference if the new album debuts at 12 or 105? i absolutely LOVE the music and honestly, i couldn?t care less. if anything, i?m happy that the band won?t be on the "normal" music channels.

Punk rock as we know it today is an embarrassment not so much Bad Religion.
But if they keep trying to recapture something that's never gonna comeback then they should bow out gracefully.
Bands no matter how good or bad have move on and after seeing BR for over almost 15 years live it seems to me the motions are starting to set in.
JUst my opinion that's all.

I just don't get some of you people here.
Just because they're back on Epitaph and not on a major doesn't mean they're any better now than they were in the past.Personally I like STF and yes folks I'm sorry to say this but NS.From what I can gather STF is still their biggest selling album to date.I'm happy to see BR making good music but the sad fact is that the music industry is dying the death as we all know it and record sales have dropped and will continue for so on and on.I honestly don't think BR will ever recapture the glorified chart topping days of 1994 and the so called year punk broke(Green Day,Rancid,Offspring),bla,bla,bla.....None of those bands ever will.
They're all old relics now folks and it is getting a little tired now.But I'll still take them any day over half the so called punk rock bands of today.Honestly it's pretty embarrassing now.
#28 in the charts is not bad but they should think about retiring soon if they want to be left with any dignity.
Punk Sucks!

I don't know if this contributes anything worthy to the conversation here, but maybe also take into consideration that TPOB probably had more sales because it was considered BR's "comeback" album. Hell, I had a friend who isn't even a real fan of them buy that cd just because of all the (deserved) hype about it! So maybe now that things are back to "normal", sales have dropped off a little bit? I dunno what I'm saying...just throwing that out there.
And anyways...BR is barely a blip on the radar screen here in the US, so it's all relative!

@blah: the problem - if you weigh this crap discussion here so important - is that IF you take the number of records sold as your base, it looks even bleaker. because record sales in germany are lower than ever before. that means TESF must have sold literally hundreds or thousands units less than TPOB.

Well I just wanted to inform you about the position! Never thought about this discussion! I think that the charts are definitely overrated. Especially here in Germany! Casting Show Stars everywhere you look! Besides that you have the german Wannabe Gangsta Rappers along with them. The thing is that the so called stars who are leading the charts at the moment will be forgotten in a few years! But this will never happen to BR!!! They are there for 23 years! And I want to see another band which is in the business for this long time and still making such great records every tow years as they do! So forget the charts, enjoy the album and hope to see the next album in 2006 :-)!

you have to decide if you want to compare the charts or the amount of albums sold. the chart position itself doesnt say much about sold albums, its just putting the album in relation to other music albums sold at the same time, so you cant really compare the current chart number with previous ones from bad religion.

Richard, I think you've missed something!
The reason BR topped the charts and all was because they were on a major label. Today, they are back at their ordinary independent label, make better music than ever on the major label, and if the people in the world don't like them now, their loss!
BR have not been as vital as on this and PoB since Generator imo!

Well,I remember when they were on a major label and they were either #4,#6,#10 in the charts in Germany.
Also remember this was when Bad Religion was one of the biggest touring bands in all the world.Especially Germany.
Now it does almost seem like their star is starting to dim a little bit.
That's life!

Maybe Bad Religion's ticker is starting to wane after all these years and it's time for them to call it a day soon.Better burning out at 28 than rusting shut at 126 in the charts.
