Bad Religion in Porto Alegre - RS, Brazil
A short Review (sorry for the english)
Well, it?s friday night and I'm in a bus trying unsuccesfully to sleep, it's a long night trip since I live 800Km from Porto Alegre (from now on, POA). There's a movie on the buses TV set, something about a american soldier who daces with wolfes and have some idians friends, or something, crappy stuff. There was no sound coming from the TV so I kept listening to some Angry Samoans, Turbonegro, DOA and New York Dolls and reading some Bukowiski's stories.
Finaly it's saturday morning and I'm in the bus station in POA trying to find out how to get at the place I was going to stay... I tried to get some info in the Tourists Iformation, but it was closed, so I hade to take a cab. No problem... in few minutes I was at the apartment I was going to stay and had a real bed to have some sleep. Oh yeah, I'm in Porto Alegre, a cool city with the most beautifull girls in this country. But I don't know anybody there and had nothing to do. So I went for a walk to find somewhere I could have a beer and some food. Well, it was the beggining of my day. And I kept drinking until it was time to go the venue.
I couldn't get to see Dead Fish coz when I entered the place Bad Religion was already getting up to the stage! And in few minutes the first notes of Overture was all around the place, and it sounded terrible. I wonder if the guys did a sound check, Sinister Rouge came and I couldn't hear Greg's voice of any guitar. Fortunately, the sound got better as the songs was being played and, as I was drunk and so excited with the show, I could care less about the sound. The band was amazing, Brooks is realy fast (but Kinda too jazzy and ruined some classic stuff...). I think this was the fastest BR gig I've ever been to! I was realy happy that they played Man With a Mission, You and Sanity, a rad surprise!
In some point of the show, Greg pointed some kid in the audience and said his t-shirt defined what punk rock is, I don't know what was written in the tshirt but the crowd started to go like "Hey Ho! Let's Go" (I don't understand why Brazillian crowds has to do that in every punk rock gig ever... it?s stupid) and then the band started playing Blitzrieg Bop. Greg didn't sing it, let the audiece do it and only sang the Hey Ho Lets Go part. They didnt play the whole song, actualy, but that was realy unexpected and awesome. After the song Greg said it was for "Joey, the original punk", and Jay remembered "And to Dee and Johnny too, fuck, they are all gone!"
After about 1:20 hs of punk rock, they left the stage promissing to come back soon and I was feeling like a teenager again, exausted, but realy happy that I could see this old punkers once again!
