I think Brooks is awsome all the way around. His drum fills and flams are incredible, and his speed is amazing.
Back on topic: Everyone knew Schayer was still active. Not only is he a drum tech, but he's also a music teacher.

I think Brooks is incredible in the studio. In the Studio he is the best bad religion ever. Bu he doesn't know how to play live. He thinks Bad rEligion is Jazz, he does improvisations all the time, and his drums become very boring most and it's also very difficult to hear the snare drum on the hardcore songs like No control or supersonic. But i have to say that he plays very well songs like infected and epiphany live, the mid-tempo songs.

I saw the Live in Germany set (Lorley 96?) taken from German TV , and Schayer was abismal. He is slow, fat, and doesn't look interested. A poor choice of drummer by an intelligent band. Thankful he is gone.

Pete Finestone was the best - technically he wasnt the best, we know this, but the reason he was the best drummer BR have had is because he CHOSE to play faster - now whether he was faster or not i dont know - but he CHOSE to play fast. Wackerman should have pushed BR on the last two albums to pick it up a bit. But hes the new boy and probably keeps schtum.

Bobby Schayer was fun. That's it people he was just a fun drummer, but in terms of who's a better fit to the Bad Religion fold, hands down it's Brooks Wackerman. I have never heard such tight drumming from anybody in any form of music. People salivate over Rush's drummer, Neil Pert, but really now, i mean, whats the big fucking deal? He sucks compared to Brooks. And as for Pete Finestone, let me just say that he did a great job on No Control, that whole album is like movement waiting to break into action, taking all prisoners!

I think due to the amount of albums bobby worked on, his style suits the bands career the most. All of BR's percussionists have different styles, brooks has simply to play a BR style without straying to far from the style the others have allready layed out, it in no way represents what he (or any drummer) can do in their own bedroom.

I agree with smelly and Automatic Henchman - Brooks plays great on the albums but he makes certain songs sound really disjointed live. The fills in Digital Boy sounded especially bad last time I saw them. Plus Brooks purposely adds ritardandos that make them sound slower than Bobby Schayer ever could.

Bobby Schayer ist NICHT ein good drummer.
Don't get me started on That Flinstone guy, he took away my job. I had to get a reverse Michael Jackson operation and become a rapper under the guise of Jay Z.
Auf wiedersehn.

Considering how ambitious and complex some of the things Brooks tries are, he makes relatively few mistakes. What he does in Generator during the breakdowns and after the oozin aahs is a work of art.

One funny thing about Brooks, he's absolutely the greatest on the records, but when I heard them played Sinister Rouge live in Oslo he made it sound like a disaster.

Hey guys.
Brooks is technically such a great drummer - he ADDS to the songs. Bobby was just a cool guys who played limited but fucking tight. As far as Pete - well, Anesthesia went pretty well...
cant we all just get along?

I love Bobby, but Brooks is 100 times better drummer. I'm sorry to say that, but he really is. And it does matter, for the quality of music. But - good luck Bobby, in everything U do. Skyscraper rulez anyway.

I'm glad to see people facing the facts about Schayer. Wackerman is unbelievable; so many subtleties. But I must insist that every BR album is great, and I think the Atlantic stuff is just as good as the new Epitaph stuff. The New America is awesome. I don't think that drums are very important in Bad Religion. BR is great because 1)Most thought-provoking lyrics in all rock 2)Graffin's beautiful, authoritative vocals 3)Fast, semi-dark/sad chord progressions 4)Bitchin' lead guitar. All of the above negates the necessity for great drumming, in my humble opinion.

Bobby's limitations were apparent on the albums, but even moreso live. I swear the guy had two fills that he did and that was his limit. He also had a habit of doing them too fast coming into or out of a chorus, forcing the band to lose time a bit. I was sad to hear of his injury that forced him to leave the band, but as far as his drums went I was happy to see him go. Having the fantastic Brooks come in was just icing on the cake.
I agree with tom from the UK -- I would've liked to hear some of the earlier work with Brooks' talent applied.

Well, "good" is so subjective. It doesn't really matter to me how many drum-offs a drummer can win or how hard his fills are to play. Pete was a good drummer cause he complimented the songs well. Bobby did a great job at the beginning, getting progressively lazier with each album. However, I blame Greg's writing more than Bobby's drumming for the "slowness" of the later Atlantic albums. He was just writing more mid-tempo songs.

I've been playing drums semi-professionally for over 10 years and trust me when I say that Brooks Wackerman is not only the best drummer Bad Religion have had, but one of the best drummers any bands have had... ever. Bobby's drumming on Generator is classic and helped make that album. But on subsequent albums Bobby's drumming was perhaps a bit too controlled and measured which did make it sound 'slow'. For a long time most of my non-BR liking friends said that Bad Religion were the slowest punk band around and I think Bobby has to take his fair share of the blame for that. Pete was more explosive, but, lets be honest... he just wasn't very good was he?

Pete's drumming on Against the Grain and No Control is amazing. I don't see what the big deal is about Bobby... his kit didn't sound unique, like Pete's did... and Brooke's is just insane on the drums!
Personally, I think Pete is BR's best drummer.

Bobby didn't take part in Suffer. And the drums on Generator have a unique sound. Well, the whole Generator has a distinct sound. I would like the new record to head into that direction sound wise instead of the overly digital sound they chose for The Empire...

best punk rock drummer of allt ime?! don't make me laugh, the guy was abysmal, so slow and fat and repetetive. imagine how much better they would have been with a drummer like wackerman on suffer, generator etc. i know they were great albums but that was the main area that couldve been improved upon.
