9:30 Club, located at 815 V St., NW, Washington D.C., is considered a historic music venue in the United States. It remains in operation today.
The original location, 930 F Street, NW, opened in May 1980 with a max capacity of 200 and large poles that obstrcuted the stage. The venue became known for its rat problem and stench as it played host to upcmoing national acts such as: Minor Threat, Government Issue, Bad Brains, Nirvana, Fugazi, R.E.M., Black Flag, Public Enemy, and Tony Bennett. It relocated to its current address in January 1996, hosting Smashing Pumpkins to two sold out shows - not so smelly, no rats, and perfect sightlines. The venue has been selected the #1 nightclub in the country by Rolling Stone, Billboard, and Pollstar, the most by any venue. It is the most attended club of its size in the world. [1]
