Although you can, of course, check out the full article on the Epitaph website, here are some of the highlights:
Brett: "While we're celebrating our 30th anniversary as a band this year it's also a time when Greg and I have embarked on new creative pursuits which have informed our songwriting process. I'm a new parent again and Greg a new author having just completed his first book Anarchy Evolution. So the songs are a distillation of where we've been and who we are now...a natural evolution of creativity."
"(...) Bad Religion entered the studio armed with 16 songs that are filled with deeply personal experiences, cautionary tales and a developing worldview, spanning the gauntlet from their signature high energy punk rock to a more introspective melodic sound."
Graffin: "We wouldn't embark on this new creative endeavor, Brett wouldn't have embarked on parenthood, I wouldn't have embarked on writing a book, if we hadn't reached a place in our lives where we felt the confidence that we had something to offer and that's what these songs represent. They represent a new found confidence that things are starting to make sense to us."
Brett: "Being a new parent has colored my whole world. As a result I've written songs that at least for me, are somewhat less angsty and more introspective and vulnerable. The experience has emboldened me to take some creative risks as a songwriter that I've not allowed myself to take before."

Well I know Anesthesia was metaphorically speaking about love but on a more serious note, Will we be hearing similar lyrics to 1000 memories, or songs from American Lesion?

That's nice that they're finally going to put some emotion into their catalog. I never caught any of that in the other albums. ;D
Hm... they kinda did that... in their worst of times... ever listened to The New America? One of the things I love deeply about BR is that their music is NOT emotional. It is sober, cerebral, more scientific (or scientifically poetic). This is true for their lyrics (in which Greg is more the scientist and Brett more the story teller) AND their music. So while I'm gonna keep an open mind, I'm not really looking forward to "emotional Bad Religion"... but we'll see. I don't anticipate too much emotional stuff.
Emotion is very subjective. To me, sober, cerebral lyrics can be very emotional. If you feel passionately about science and rational inquiry, as I do, Greg's "sober" songs can evoke strong emotions. Yet, I also understand the perspective of someone who feels frustrated when "it's too much to ignore, an emotion I deplore," and don't want to "let your emotions mask your sight."
Like Greg (if I understood The Gray Race's meaning), I believe that "turning true emotion into digital expression" is a bad thing, while at the same time remaining conscious that "there's hope in the words, and emotion in the eyes, it's so easy to be misled by the savvy, gentle guise." I recognize the need to temper emotions with skepticism, but trying to supress or ignore or reduce emotion to something insignificant is not a very honest or humble way to live, either. I certianly wouldn't conflate Bad Religion with a band that is focused particularly on emotions, but Brett and Greg certainly don't shy from acknowledging or commenting on emotions in their lyrics.
And it was Greg who said on The New America (yes, I've heard it :) "I'm full of emotion, and stuff you can't contain." In spite of that being the low point in the lyrics to an otherwise great song (I still maintain that if you took the best songs from TNA and NS and put them together, you'd have one great BR album), the point I think rings clear. Emotions are significant and they have to be acknowledged when discussing the topics covered by Bad Religion's music.
I think we're not going to see a big thematic departure from Bad Religion on this album (especially if Resist Stance turns out to be exemplary)... I wouldn't be too worried by Brett's talk of being "somewhat less angsty" and taking "creative risks."

Damn it, I can't wait till the fall, Jay, how much would it cost to get a hold of an advanced copy?
i think its called "leaked version" nowadays...
The problem with "leaked copies" is that in most cases they don't leak until closer to when the album does. I'm talking about getting one as soon the recording process is finished.

A while ago I was wondering why, in many bands, the singer (and often other members) wears the same outfit night after night....I found out it was the economical thing to do- they just sweat it out in this one pair of clothes so they don't sweat through an entire line-up of clothing throughout a tour. So Greg was probably wearing the same black polo shirt every night on the 30 Years Live HOB tour....but that's just a guess.

Greg is pissed because Jay and Brooks broke into his closet and are wearing two of Greg's hundreds of duplicate clothing items. Nothing says punk rock like button up shirts.
Seriously, Doc, how many black polo shirts do you own?
