Slightly unexpected, but Epitaph decided to upload the full True North album to Youtube. Check out all the songs here:
Note that the lyrics are included in the comments on Youtube.
Enjoy.... but don't forget to still buy the album when it's released on January 22nd!
If you listen Bad Religion in order to hear great guitar riffs, unique guitar phrases, you have choosen the wrong band, Bad Religion is about melody and lyrics in first place. Just notice how many songs on this album instrumentaly especialy guitar wise are similar and also similar to the rest of the BR songs
I've listened to this band since '93, so please don't tell me that I have chosen the wrong band. It's also quite insulting to BR, because I believe that their greatest songs, such as All Good Soldiers and Honest Goodbye, are quite unique in every single way.
Yes, they have this tendency to add these "fast paced punk rock songs", because otherwise the fans would complain. But what's worse about The Island is that it is on purpose. I guess it's meant to be an easter egg, but I still think it's unnecessary.
After listenting to it a bunch of times, some tracks clearly stand out: Dharma And The Bomb, Hello Cruel World and maybe My Head Is Full Of Ghost.
I've never said that all of their songs are instrumentally similar, but many or most of their songs and of course they have about 20 songs out of 260 which are instrumentally pretty unique and you mentioned few of them.
And they write 'fast paced punk rock songs' not because their fans will complain, but because they like to write fast or fasterer songs because they like punk rock music.

I couldn't care less what "The Island " is "rated;" it's awesome, and I don't need it to be either popular or unpopular in order to think so.

The island is awesome! Everyone has their own opinion, personally I find songs like honest goodbye and hello cruel world, broken etc boring, brett pop songs, the melodic faster punk rock with more interesting lyrics is why I like BR, gregs songs I can connect with, bretts not so much. The new album is brilliant overall imo........

Danny holloway! You are right on. Recipie for Hate will always be my favorite. Best songwriting on that album. I wish they would remaster it. You may find this new album better than Process for the same reason. Then of course there is Suffer. So yeah my top 3 are the same.

Been holding off on where I place this record until at least 3 or 4 listens. Now that I'm there....I say it's their best effort in at least 10 years. I would say nearly 20, but Process of Belief is still in my top 3.
My Top 3 BR records have always been:
Recipe For Hate
Process of Belief
Suffer
I just can't slide down Process or Suffer. It very well may be in my top 5....but I'm still not sure. The fact that I'm even thinking about it though....is kind of all that needs to be said. This is their best effort in a very long time. I'll just put it that way.

The Island is seriously overrated. It's not a good thing that it sounds so much like "When?". I already have Suffer.

Killer record! Best one since, oh, Generator or maybe STF imo. Favorite tracks after a couple of listens .. Crisis Time, Vanity, Nothing To Dismay, Changing Tide, Hello Cruel World. Looks like my vinyl just shipped too, yay!

Just listened to them. Pretty damn good but quite a few unnecessary tracks for me. Nothing as had as four of the last five on The Dissent of Man, though.
My favorites through one listen in are True North, Past is Dead, In Their Hearts is Right, Nothing to Dismay, My Head is Full of Ghosts, and perhaps the best song on the album, The Island.
Album sounds like a mix between STF, TGR, TNA, and TPOB.

Okay so listening through a few times. I seriously think this album is pretty amazing and it has something for everyone. Most of the album is very up beat which is great for Bad Religion fans and they threw a couple curve balls in the mix as well. Some of the cool effects they used on 'My Head is Full of Ghosts' were really cool.
And please can I get an Amen on how catchy the chorus is in both 'In Their Hearts is Right' and 'Nothing to Dismay'. OMFG!!!!!!!! those chorus are catchy and I cannot wait to see them live!!!!

I really enjoy Brett's song, tho I don't love his voice that much. The song is good enough for me to not care about the voice though. Those guitars!!!!!!!!!

Overall Im liking this album, so much better than TDOM, only thing that spoils it for me again are the obvious poppy brett songs, dharma and the bomb, hello cruel word.....repetative simple boring imo just cant connect with them, the repetative chorus of 'in their hearts is right I find irritating atm too, will be skipping those for sure. Most of the album tho I'm digging, loving songs like true north, past is dead, land of endless greed, dept of false hope, head full of ghosts etc, Have they held 'changing tide' back? I haven't come across it yet. NMoh was great but this might be my favourite since TGR :)

I just finished listening to the album and yes I'm going to "borrow" the songs until my bundle package arrives next week. but thank you bad religion for making another great album!! I love how the songs are fast and short.. alot of energy that I felt was missing from the last album (still good on its own tho) the wait for this album was worth it. I really really REALLY love the song true north.

First no leaks to be heard of....and then, suddenly, Epitaph puts it all out on the table!
Surely gotta raise my hat for those guys! THANKS!

awesome album! thank you Bad Religion!
It all sounds really clear 10x better than NMOH. great guitar solos. the backing vocals are awesome. Greg's singing is great as usual and the dharma and the bomb song is really good. Brett's voice is really good for these kind of rock songs.

In that case I won't post the download-link on the internet at all. I was willing to make the album only available for the most dedicated fans of BR, who are gathered on this website.
The new album is defintely great and feels fresh. I hope it's not their last. Been a fan fan from the early 90's and grew up with BR. Can't wait to buy the abum on 22nd.

This is wonderful!!!
It reminds me of the golden era (suffer, no control, against the grain) but still sounds refreshing and new.
Definetely a lot better than the previous one.

No way that's a cowbell
It doesnt sound like one, plus Brooks is already hitting the hi hat, so he couldnt hit the cowbell at the same time, unless they would've recorded it separately, but I'm sure they did not...

Piano in Hello Cruel World,
Isn't that actually a cowbell??? It sounds too hollow for a piano...
Well I'm certainly no expert. I hear one note (half speed) throughout the song, and a second higher note (double time) through the last chorus. Both sound like a piano to me...

LOLZ
Neil Davis
Morpheus came to me and he played this song. He paused, then asked, "what if I told you this is Bad Religion?"
The wave function of my false reality collapsed and I awoke with Brett Gurewitz, Josh Freese and Gore Verbinski standing over me.
"You've been living in a dream, Neil."
P.S. (to Brett) so this is what you were nervous about? It's all good. There's nothing more bad religion than doing something radically different every other album. BTW, stop reading the comments to this song aleady!

Listening right now, man am I surprised. Like ComicSans said, I can't put my finger on it, but it sounds refreshing somehow. It reminds me a bit of when I heard TESF for the first time. Don't know why really.

I'm finding this really refreshing. I can't quite put my finger on why. But I am really digging it. Piano in Hello Cruel World, Jay's bass, the mix. Something in the formula is really resonating with me.
Nothing against TDoM, I think it stands for itself (and is what it is), and I wouldn't call True North a return to form, but on first listen, it really comes across as an inspired, energetic effort. Looking forward to digesting this one.
